A Heat Exchanger with Water Vapor Condensation on the External Surface of a Vertical Pipe

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
The paper is concerned with water vapor condensation on vertical pipes. The vertical position of pipes in a condenser is not discussed very often. Its application has a number of particularities in terms of the numerical determination of heat transfer ...

Maillard Type Reaction for Electroless Copper Plating onto Ceramic Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents the manufacturing of copper‐plated ceramic nanoparticles in an environmentally friendly way. Supported by organic functionalizations with pectin an electroless plating step can be performed. Sustainable reagents like xylose, and several amino acids are used for the reduction process.

Karyopherins and condensates

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Cell Biology, 2020
Several aggregation-prone RNA-binding proteins, including FUS, EWS, TAF15, hnRNP A1, hnRNP A2, and TDP-43, are mutated in neurodegenerative diseases. The nuclear-cytoplasmic distribution of these proteins is controlled by proteins in the karyopherin family of nuclear transport factors (Kaps). Recent studies have shown that Kaps not only transport these

Improved General Correlation for Condensation in Channels

open access: yesInventions, 2022
The present author’s general correlation for condensation in mini and macro channels which has been verified with an extreme range of data was further evaluated at quality x close to 1. Large deviations were found at quality x ≥ 0.99. The correlation was

The shape of the emerging condensate in effective models of condensation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We consider effective models of condensation where the condensation occurs as time t goes to infinity. We provide natural conditions under which the build-up of the condensate occurs on a spatial scale of 1/t and has the universal form of a Gamma density. The exponential parameter of this density is determined only by the equation and the total mass of

Icephobic Gradient Polymer Coatings Coupled with Electromechanical De‐icing Systems: A Promising Ice Repellent Hybrid System

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid system for de‐icing made of gradient polymer coatings, deposited on aluminum coupled with an electromechanical system, is demonstrated as an effective and durable strategy for reducing drastically ice adhesion. The system is capable of detaching ice blocks over the coating in less than 1 s, regardless of the ice type and covered area ...

Fluorocholesterols, in contrast to hydroxycholesterols, exhibit interfacial properties similar to cholesterol

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2000
We used an automated Langmuir-Pockels surface balance to characterize the air–water interfacial properties of cholesterol (CH) and its derivatives with hydrophilic OH and F substitutions at isologous sites on the sterol body or side chain.

Experimental Investigation of Thermal Behaviors in Window Systems by Monitoring of Surface Condensation Using Full-Scale Measurements and Simulation Tools

open access: yesEnergies, 2016
The aim of the present study was to investigate the thermal performance of window systems using full-scale measurements and simulation tools. A chamber was installed on the balcony of an apartment to control the temperatures which can create condensation

Spirocyclic Nitroxides as Versatile Tools in Modern Natural Sciences: From Synthesis to Applications. Part I. Old and New Synthetic Approaches to Spirocyclic Nitroxyl Radicals

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Spirocyclic nitroxyl radicals (SNRs) are stable paramagnetics bearing spiro-junction at α-, β-, or γ-carbon atom of the nitroxide fragment, which is part of the heterocyclic system.
