Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

A review of mechanical seals tribology and condition monitoring [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Mechanical seals have become one of the most popular sealing systems for rotating machinery because of low leakage and absence of a requirement for routine maintenance.

Condition monitoring of an advanced gas-cooled nuclear reactor core [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A critical component of an advanced gas-cooled reactor station is the graphite core. As a station ages, the graphite bricks that comprise the core can distort and may eventually crack.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Energy Analysis of Cascade Heating with High Back-Pressure Large-Scale Steam Turbine

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
To reduce the exergy loss that is caused by the high-grade extraction steam of traditional heating mode of combined heat and power (CHP) generating unit, a high back-pressure cascade heating technology for two jointly constructed large-scale steam ...

Integrating an agent-based wireless sensor network within an existing multi-agent condition monitoring system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The use of wireless sensor networks for condition monitoring is gaining ground across all sectors of industry, and while their use for power engineering applications has yet been limited, they represent a viable platform for next-generation substation ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Numerical Study of Nacelle Wind Speed Characteristics of a Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine under Time-Varying Flow

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Nacelle wind speed transfer function (NTF) is usually used for power prediction and operational control of a horizontal axis wind turbine. Nacelle wind speed exhibits high instability as it is influenced by both incoming flow and near wake of a wind ...
