Gas Turbine Condition Monitoring and Prognosis: A Review [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Forum, 2011
Gas-turbine engines are critical to the operation of most industrial plants, aircraft and heavy vehicles. Condition monitoring is essential to mastering mechanical system running status, improving operation reliability, and reducing maintenance cost. This paper reviews state-of-the-art gas turbine condition monitoring, puts forward the pending problems

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Review of the Predictive Value of Biomarkers in Sepsis Mortality

open access: yesEmergency Medicine International
Sepsis is a leading cause of mortality among severely ill individuals, primarily due to its potential to induce fatal organ dysfunction. For clinicians, it is vital to have appropriate indicators, including the physiological status and personal ...

Epilepsy seizure types, classification and treatment

open access: yesSouth African Family Practice, 2018
Epilepsy is a chronic condition whose building blocks are recurrent seizures. It is this varied presentation that at times poses a challenge to making a diagnosis. The response to treatment is also not uniform, making it necessary to individualise.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Prognostic value of combined psoas muscle mass and controlling nutritional status in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: a retrospective cohort study

open access: yesBMC Surgery
Background Pancreatic ductal carcinoma (PDAC) is an extremely poor prognostic disease. Even though multidisciplinary treatment for PDAC has developed, supportive therapies, such as nutritional therapy or perioperative rehabilitation to sustain and ...

Analysis of factors influencing the severity of acute phase and short - term prognosis of anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor encephalitis

open access: yesChinese Journal of Contemporary Neurology and Neurosurgery
Objective To explore the factors influencing the severity of acute phase and short-term prognosis of anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis, and search for potential indicators for assessing disease severity and predicting prognosis ...

Portal vein pneumatosis. Report of a case and review of the literature

open access: yesActa Pediátrica de México, 2014
Portal venous gas is a condition usually detected in a radiologic sign in which gas is seen in the portal vein. We report the case of an infant with portal venous gas secondary to intestinal ischemia, which is one of the most frequent of its causes and ...
