A Note on Pivotality

open access: yesGames, 2019
This note provides simple derivations of the equilibrium conditions for different voting games with incomplete information. In the standard voting game à la Austen-Smith and Banks (1996), voters update their beliefs, and, conditional on their being ...

The Logic of Conditional Belief [PDF]

open access: yesThe Philosophical Quarterly, 2020
AbstractThe logic of indicative conditionals remains the topic of deep and intractable philosophical disagreement. I show that two influential epistemic norms—the Lockean theory of belief and the Ramsey test for conditional belief—are jointly sufficient to ground a powerful new argument for a particular conception of the logic of indicative ...

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Principles of Knowledge, Belief and Conditional Belief [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We review and examine in this paper the validity of the different axioms (and inference rules) of knowledge and belief and relating knowledge to belief which have been proposed in the epistemic !epistemic logic literature. In doing so, we encounter many of the problems that epistemic !epistemic logic has had to face in its relatively short (modern ...

Volatile Relay Biosensing and Mobile Phone Imaging for Detection of Influenza Virus

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Detection of volatile organic compounds is performed via a coupled enzymatic assay with mobile phone detection of the signal. Specific application demonstrated herein is the detection of influenza virus, across multiple levels of biological complexity, up to patient‐derived samples.

Observational Equivalence of Conditional Belief Bases

open access: yesThe International FLAIRS Conference Proceedings, 2023
In nonmonotonic reasoning, a conditional of the form ‘If A then usually B’ is typically accepted if a situation where both A and B hold is deemed to be more plausible, more probable, or less surprising, etc., than a situation where A holds, but B does not hold.

A Novel Perfused Full‐Thickness Human Skin Microphysiological System for Modeling Injury, Regeneration, Tumor Pathophysiology, and Therapeutics Development

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
What if human skin could remain fully alive and functional outside the body for weeks? A New Alternative Method (NAM) based on a vascularized full‐thickness skin microphysiological system achieves precisely this, preserving native vasculature, resident immunity, and metabolic activity for up to three weeks, while faithfully recapitulating radiation ...

Bioprinting High‐Cell‐Density Cardiac Tissue Constructs With Sustained Contractile Function

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Contractile cardiomyocytes in 3D culture provide insights into the behavior of the heart. Combining a 3D bioprinting approach with a multi‐electrode array allows the development of the 3D culture to be monitored over time, and matured cultures allow the effect of drugs on cardiac function to be modelled, replicating effects seen in clinical application.

From Payload‐First Toward Dual‐Mechanism Antibody–Drug Conjugates

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Conjugation converts potent antibodies into underexposed carriers. This perspective defines the antibody exposure deficit and maps a mechanism‐first design space from payload‐first to antibody‐first ADC architectures, integrating DAR, linker chemistry, and Fc engineering to guide rational design of constructs that balance targeted cytotoxicity with ...
