Start-oscillation conditions in nonuniform backward-wave oscillators

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 1964
The effects of nonuniformities in the circuit phase velocity and the beam potential on the start-oscillation conditions of an O-type backward-wave oscillator (BWO) are investigated. The nonuniformities include linear, quadratic, and exponential circuit phase velocity tapers and beam potential gradients.

Langmuir oscillations under nonequilibrium conditions

Journal of Russian Laser Research, 1999
The influence of external ionization sources on the characteristics of Langmuir oscillations in a partially ionized plasma is considered. It is demonstrated that in the case of continuous sources of ionization the nonlinear Langmuir oscillations are nonharmonic and are determined by the Airy equation.

Synchronization conditions for Lyapunov oscillators

49th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2010
Synchronization of coupled oscillators is an important problem in the analysis and control of coupled dynamical systems. Loosely speaking, oscillators are synchronous if the solutions of all individual oscillators converge towards a common periodic solution.

Conditions for mechanical Bloch oscillations

physica status solidi (c), 2005
Using the theory for surface waves, the propagation of a disturbance in elastic media is studied. An important and sufficient condition for achieving Bloch oscillations is the variation of the depth of the fluid. This variation produces changes in the refraction index and in the wave number of the disturbance in such a way that those changes exhibit ...

Starting oscillation conditions for gyrotron backward wave oscillators

Physics of Plasmas, 1994
A generalized linear theory that allows for mismatched boundary conditions was used in determining the starting oscillation conditions for gyrotron backward wave oscillators (gyro-BWO). The results reveal that the gyro-BWO interaction is normally caused by the interference between a constant-amplitude backward wave and a decaying backward wave.

Multiple modes of a conditional neural oscillator

Biological Cybernetics, 1990
We present a model for a conditional bursting neuron consisting of five conductances: Hodgkin-Huxley type time- and voltage-dependent Na+ and K+ conductances, a calcium activated voltage-dependent K+ conductance, a calcium-inhibited time- and voltage-dependent Ca++ conductance, and a leakage Cl- conductance. With an initial set of parameters (version S)

Oscillation conditions of A FIR waveguide laser

International Journal of Infrared and Millimeter Waves, 1983
Abstract The oscillation conditions of an FIR waveguide laser are studied. The conditions take into account the waveguide characteristics and coupling features. The results are used to determine the threshold of the laser and the effect of each dimension on the output power.

Oscillation threshold conditions in phonation

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1986
A small-oscillation theory is developed for determining threshold conditions for onset and release of vocal fold vibration as a function of lung pressure, tissue viscosity, glottal aperture, and surface wave velocity in the mucosa (vocal fold cover). It is found that oscillation threshold lung pressure increases in proportion to mucosal wave velocity ...

Effect of Attenuation on Backward-Wave Oscillation Start Oscillation Condition

IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 2004
In a practical helix traveling-wave tube (TWT), there is always attenuator/sever for suppressing the oscillations, including backward-wave oscillation (BWO). The factors of the influencing BWO include start position of the attenuator, its length, and attenuation quantity.
