Cone penetrometer and liquid limit

Géotechnique, 1982
The suitability of a simple expression, containing the specific gravity of soil particles, relating the plasticity index and compression index for soils at their plastic and liquid limits is tested by comparing predicted values with measured values of the compression index.

The seismic cone penetrometer

2010
A static cone penetrometer was modified to incorporate a small diameter triaxial geophone package. This instrument was evaluated by obtaining downhole shear wave velocity profiles at selected research sites on the Fraser River Delta near Vancouver B.C. for the purpose of determining in-situ dynamic shear moduli.

Site investigation with static cone penetrometer

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1976
A geotechnical investigation of a 100-acre (404,700 sq m) site adjacent to the Savannah River in Augusta, Ga., is described. Extensive and economical use was made of the static cone penetrometer with friction jacket in establishing subsurface conditions and estimating geotechnical engineering properties of micaceous sands and organic clays for design ...

A Multisleeve Friction Attachment for the Cone Penetrometer

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2002
Abstract Accurate knowledge of the strength of soil-geomaterial interfaces is becoming of increasing importance in geotechnical engineering. Systems whose performance is heavily dependent on soil-geomaterial interfaces include deep foundations, synthetic impervious liners, trenchless technologies, and an assortment of earth retaining ...

Development and calibration of radio-isotope cone penetrometers

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2005
Radio-Isotope cone penetrometers (RI-cones) are developed to measure the basic soil properties like water content and soil density under in situ conditions in real time along with other parameters such as soil strength and hydrogeologic conditions of subsurface soils.

Electronically‐controlled, portable, cone penetrometer

Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis, 1998
Abstract An electronically‐controlled, portable, cone penetrometer was designed, built, and tested. The penetrometer was driven electrically through a linear actuator. Cone position was sensed by a 10‐turn potentiometer, and force was sensed with an electronic load cell.

Validation of the automatic dynamic cone penetrometer

2022
The U.S. military requires a rapid means of measuring subsurface soil strength for construction and repair of expeditionary pavement surfaces. Traditionally, a dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) has served this purpose, providing strength with depth profiles in natural and prepared pavement surfaces.

A Cone Penetrometer System for Measuring Cone Index and Stress Relaxation

Transactions of the ASAE, 1989
ABSTRACT Aportable computer controlled cone penetrometer was designed for making cone index and relaxed cone index measurements. The new penetrometer is DC powered and was interfaced to an IBM personal computer. Software was used for controlling the penetrometer motor speed (penetration rate), and sampling cone depth, cone index and stress relaxation ...
