Energy-based comparison between a dynamic cone penetrometer and a motor-operated static cone penetrometer

Soil and Tillage Research, 2011
Dynamic cone penetrometers (DCP) have been available for many years. However, there is still an uncertainty between the simplified Dutch Formula and the complete one. As a continual approach to assess both formulae, this study provides an energy-based comparison between a DCP and a motor-operated static cone penetrometer (SCP).

A Lightweight 12-m Cone Penetrometer

1985
This paper describes a remotely operated, bottom resting cone penetrometer for testing to soil depths of 12 m (40 ft) in un-cemented sands, silts, and soft to medium stiff clays. It is lightweight (less than 4.5 kN [10 000 lb]) and can achieve 12-m penetration with a 4.5 kN (10 000 lb).

Techniques for sealing cone penetrometer holes

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1995
Direct penetration exploration tools such as the electric cone penetrometer (CPT) and piezocone (CPTU) are being increasingly used for site investigation studies to evaluate stratigraphy and obtain groundwater samples. Most of these techniques are considered full-displacement direct-push or direct-drive penetration methods which can leave open ...

An improved design of cone penetrometer

Journal of Agricultural Engineering Research, 1990
Cone penetrometers, devices made of a thin rod with a cone tip, are used to measure soil penetration resistance. Through penetrometer measurements, information on soil characteristics such as compaction and trafficability can be easily and quickly found.

Cone Penetrometer Test

2015
This chapter covers one of the most popular insitu tests, the cone penetrometer test (CPT). A brief description of different types of tests has been provided. The piezocone test, an advanced CPT, is described including the test procedure and the parameters obtained in the field.

A 40-Foot Static Cone Penetrometer

Offshore Technology Conference, 1982
Abstract The Navy needs a lightweight device for testing seafloor soils to sub bottom depths of 12 meters in water depths to 60 meters. To meet this need a quasistatic cone penetration device that uses water jetting to reduce friction on the cone rod has been developed. This device is called the XSP-40.
