A Static Cone Penetrometer for Ocean Sediments

1972
A static cone penetrometer for deep ocean exploration has been developed and successfully tested in soft sea floor sediments at an ocean depth in excess of 1200 m. The penetration resistance of a standard 60-deg cone is detected by appropriately insulated strain gages whose output may be monitored remotely from the sensing unit.

A Seismic Cone Penetrometer for Offshore Applications

1986
A new test, called the seismic cone penetration test (SCPT) is described. A small rugged velocity seismometer has been incorporated into an electronic cone penetrometer. The combination of the seismic downhole method and the CPT logging provides an extremely rapid, reliable and economic means of determining stratigraphic, strength and modulus ...

A Portable Constant‐rate Cone Penetrometer

Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1986
Abstract A portable, constant‐rate, recording cone penetrometer was designed and field tested to eliminate operator‐associated variability with hand‐pushed penentrometers and to overcome the limited portability of tractor‐mounted penetrometers. An average penetration rate of 8.3 mm s −1
