Tribology Letters, 2007Analysis of friction versus time traces for stick-slip friction of mica surfaces across solidified films confined between them, reveals that most of the frictional dissipation occurs via viscous heating of the shear melted film during the part of the cycle where the surfaces slide past each other (slip).
