Carnap-Confirmation, Content-Cutting, & Real Confirmation
Since Carnap's notion of confirmation as probabilistic favorable relevance violates the intuitive Hempelian transmittability condition that confirmation of a hypothesis be transmitted to all the content of the hypothesis it cannot capture some key ...

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

How Large Must an Associational Mean Difference Be to Support a Causal Effect?
An observational study might support a causal claim if the association found cannot be explained by bias due to unconsidered confounders. This bias depends on how strongly the common predisposition, a summary of unconsidered confounders, is related to ...

How Strong is the Confirmation of a Hypothesis by Significant Data? [PDF]
The aim of the article is to determine how much a hypothesis H is actually confirmed if it has successfully passed a classical significance test. Bayesians have already raised many serious objections against significance testing, but in doing so they ...

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Disconfirmation is not modus tollens
Scientific disconfirmation has often been thought to be reasoning by modus tollens. This interpretation, however, misconstrues the conditionals in this scientific reasoning in terms of the material conditional, rather than in terms of causal ...

Dundee Discussion Papers in Economics 158:Is positive confirmation relevant for game theory?: an experimental test [PDF]
Previous experimental work has found that Positive Confirmation is a significant factor in learning. However, to date, there has been no attempt to test this phenomenon in a game- theoretic setting.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
