Spiral and conformal cooling in plastic injection molding

open access: yesCAD Computer Aided Design, 2015
Designing cooling channels for the thermoplastic injection process is a very important step in mold design. A conformal cooling channel can significantly improve the efficiency and the quality of production in plastic injection molding. This paper introduces an approach to generate spiral channels for conformal cooling. The cooling channels designed by

Automatic design of conformal cooling circuits for rapid tooling

open access: yesCAD Computer Aided Design, 2011
This paper presents an automatic method for designing conformal cooling circuits, which is an essential component that directly affects the quality and timing for products fabricated by rapid tooling. To reduce the time of cooling and to control the uniformity of temperature and volumetric shrinkage, industry expects to have cooling channels that are ...

Cooling Performance of an Additively Manufactured Lattice Structural Conformal Cooling Channel for Hot Stamping

open access: yesInternational Journal of Precision Engineering and Manufacturing, 2022
The design principle of an additively manufactured (AMed) lattice structural conformal cooling channel for hot stamping is investigated. AM with selective laser melting is adopted to fabricate a lab-scale rapid cooling die filled with conformal lattice structures, which provide structural stiffness, act as thermal fins, and expedite the occurrence of ...

Conformal bubbler cooling for molds by metal deposition process

CAD Computer Aided Design, 2015
Molds with conformal bubbler cooling channels have been developed in order to reduce the cycle time of the plastic injection process, which in turn has increased the production rate. In addition, part warpage can be greatly reduced in the injection process because the temperature distribution is uniform over the mold surfaces.

An investigation on conformal cooling in plastic injection moulding

open access: yes, 2011
One of the most important features of mould cooling in injection moulding is the provision of suitable and adequate cooling arrangements. For many years, mould designers and researcher have been trying to improve the performance of cooling system, despite the fact that cooling system complexity is physically limited by fabrication capability of ...

Design of conformal cooling layers with self-supporting lattices for additively manufactured tooling

open access: yesAdditive Manufacturing, 2016
Additively manufactured (AM) conformal cooling channels are currently the state of the art for high performing tooling with reduced cycle times. This paper introduces the concept of conformal cooling layers which challenges the status quo in providing ...

Conformal Cooling of the Injection Moulds

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
Paper deals with the diagnosis of operating conditions for injection moulding tools. Paper specifically deals with the conformal cooling of injection moulds for its production is using the direct metal laser sintering method. It´s quite modern method about injection mould cooling system design to improve cooling intensity.

Conformational study of jet-cooled L-phenylglycine

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2008
We investigated the conformational structures of L-phenylglycine in the gas phase by photoionization and double resonance spectroscopy techniques as well as high-level ab initio calculations. The UV-UV and IR-UV double resonance spectroscopy suggested that there exists only one conformer that has a free OH band for the carboxyl group.

Removable, conforming device for cooling the cortical surface

Brain Research Bulletin, 1979
A technique for cooling the cerebral cortex is described. It makes use of a neoprene bladder through which cold fluids is circulated. The flexible bladder is contained within a cylinder permanently attached to the skull. The bladder itself can be quickly installed and removed and conforms to the cortical surface with minimal pressure.

Electronics cooling with onboard conformal encapsulation

2016 15th IEEE Intersociety Conference on Thermal and Thermomechanical Phenomena in Electronic Systems (ITherm), 2016
A new technology for onboard liquid cooling of high power density electronic devices is introduced via conformal encapsulation of the devices and direct contact liquid cooling. This research effort addresses size, weight and power constraints of onboard application with a CFD-enabled design that delivers a uniform coolant flow over single- and multi ...
