Differential equations and conformal geometry

Journal of Geometry and Physics, 2002
The solution space of certain classes of differential equations whose local solutions are parametrized by three or four arbitrary constants can be endowed with a conformal Lorentzian metrics in a natural way. In this paper it is proved that this conformal structure is preserved when the differential equations are transformed by a contact transformation.

Derivation of Dirac's equation from conformal differential geometry

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2012
A rigorous ab initio derivation of the (square of) Dirac's equation for a single particle with spin is presented. The theory is carried out in the framework of an approach where it is assumed that quantum phenomena originate from the interplay between the motion of a relativistic spherical top and the non trivial background geometry of its ...

Differential geometry and protein conformation. V. Medium‐range conformational influence of the individual amino acids

Biopolymers, 1987
AbstractA previous differential geometric analysis of the conformational properties of the various amino acids has been extended to study their influence on folding over a larger backbone interval. In addition, statistical effects associated with variation in the number of the individual amino acids in the database have been treated in greater detail ...

Conformal Geometry, Hotine's Conjecture, and Differential Geodesy.

1987
Abstract : This report, is based on the Ph.D. dissertation of Wayne Moore, together with a supplement describing details of our recent resolution of Hotine's Conjecture, is a more comprehensive version of a paper of ours which will appear in Bulletion Geodesique.

Conformal Geometry, Differential Equations and Associated Transformations

2002
By a series of examples, we illustrate some rather remarkable and surprising (at least to some) relationships between (1) all three-dimensional conformal Lorentzian manifolds and a wide class of 3rd order ODEs (all 3rd order ODEs with vanishing Wunschmann invariant) and (2) all four dimensional conformal Lorentzian manifolds and a wide class of pairs ...

Basic Operators in Differential Geometry and Conformal Covariance

2016
In this chapter we collect some elementary properties of basic operators such as the Hodge star operator, the codifferential d*, and the interior multiplication iNY (X) by the normal vector field for hypersurfaces Y in pseudo-Riemannian manifolds X.
