A string theory which isn’t about strings
Quantization of closed string proceeds with a suitable choice of worldsheet vacuum. A priori, the vacuum may be chosen independently for left-moving and right-moving sectors.

Exact Models of Extremal Dyonic 4D Black Hole Solutions of Heterotic String Theory
Families of exact $(0,2)$ supersymmetric conformal field theories of magnetically and electrically charged extremal 4D black hole solutions of heterotic string theory are presented. They are constructed using a $(0,1)$ supersymmetric $SL(2,R)\times SU(2)$

Coset Character Identities in Superstring Compactifications
We apply the coset character identities (generalization of Jacobi's abstruse identity) to compact and noncompact Gepner models. In the both cases, we prove that the partition function actually vanishes due to the spacetime supersymmetry.

Finite sigma models and exact string solutions with Minkowski signature metric
We consider $2d$ sigma models with a $D=2+N$ - dimensional Minkowski signature target space metric having a covariantly constant null Killing vector. These models are UV finite. The $2+N$-dimensional target space metric can be explicitly determined for a

Phases of 5d SCFTs from M-/F-theory on non-flat fibrations
We initiate the systematic investigation of non-flat resolutions of non-minimal singularities in elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau threefolds. Compactification of M-theory on these geometries provides an alternative approach to studying phases of five ...

Two-Dilaton Theories in Two Dimensions from Dimensional Reduction
Dimensional reduction of generalized gravity theories or string theories generically yields dilaton fields in the lower-dimensional effective theory. Thus at the level of D=4 theories, and cosmology many models contain more than just one scalar field (e ...

W $$ \mathcal{W} $$ algebras are L∞ algebras
It is shown that the closure of the infinitesimal symmetry transformations underlying classical W $$ \mathcal{W} $$ algebras give rise to L∞ algebras with in general field dependent gauge parameters.

On the structure of quantum L∞ algebras
It is believed that any classical gauge symmetry gives rise to an L∞ algebra. Based on the recently realized relation between classical W $$ \mathcal{W} $$ algebras and L∞ algebras, we analyze how this generalizes to the quantum case.

Towards the super Virasoro minimal string
The (bosonic) Virasoro minimal string, which relates worldsheet string theory to a deformation of the JT gravity matrix model, provides an interesting example of a tractable matrix/string duality.

Supersymmetric solutions of type-II supergravity from λ-deformations and zoom-in limits
We construct the embedding of the λ-model on SL(2, ℝ) × SU(2) × SU(2) in type-II supergravity. In the absence of deformation, the ten-dimensional background corresponds to the near-horizon limit of the NS1-NS5-NS5 brane intersection.
