Analysis of Non-stationary Data for Heart-Rate Fluctuations in Terms of Drift and Diffusion Coefficients

open access: yes, 2006
We describe a method for analyzing the stochasticity in the non-stationary data for the beat-to-beat fluctuations in the heart rates of healthy subjects, as well as those with congestive heart failure.

Heart Rate Variability: A possible machine learning biomarker for mechanical circulatory device complications and heart recovery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Cardiovascular disease continues to be the number one cause of death in the United States, with heart failure patients expected to increase to \u3e8 million by 2030.

Feminizing Adrenal Carcinoma Presenting with Heart Failure and Ventricular Tachycardia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We present a case of feminizing adrenal carcinoma with severe elevation in serum estradiol and otherwise unexplained congestive heart failure with ventricular arrhythmia and review the literature on feminizing adrenal tumors and the potential ...

A New Approach to Detect Congestive Heart Failure Using Short-Term Heart Rate Variability Measures

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Heart rate variability (HRV) analysis has quantified the functioning of the autonomic regulation of the heart and heart's ability to respond. However, majority of studies on HRV report several differences between patients with congestive heart failure ...

The Influence of Surgeons' Gender on Surgical Outcomes in Laparoscopic Right Hemicolectomy: A Japanese Nationwide Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This study analyzed 58 503 laparoscopic right hemicolectomies for colon cancer in Japan between 2018 and 2022, comparing outcomes between male and female surgeons. No significant differences were found in surgical mortality or severe complications. Tailored surgical training programs for female surgeons may further enhance surgical outcomes.

When the heart kills the liver: acute liver failure in congestive heart failure

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Medical Research, 2009
Congestive heart failure as a cause of acute liver failure is rarely documented with only a few cases. Although the pathophysiology is poorly understood, there is rising evidence, that low cardiac output with consecutive reduction in hepatic blood flow ...

Left Ventricular Pacing In Patients With Congestive Heart Failure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) using biventricular (BIV) pacing has proved its effectiveness to correct myocardial asynchrony and improve clinical status of patients with severe congestive heart failure (CHF) and widened QRS. Despite a different

Procalcitonin testing for diagnosis and short-term prognosis in bacterial infection complicated by congestive heart failure: a multicenter analysis of 4,698 cases

open access: yesCritical Care, 2014
IntroductionProcalcitonin (PCT) is a biomarker for the clinical diagnosis of bacterial infection that is more specific and earlier than fever, changes in white blood cell count, and blood cultures.

Nationwide Real‐World Modeling of Surgical Outcomes in Elderly Patients: Incorporating Geriatric‐Specific Risk Factors Into Prediction of Mortality and Morbidity

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
A reliable and effective risk prediction model for mortality and morbidity in elderly patients undergoing gastroenterological surgeries was developed and validated. Geriatric‐specific risk factors, including the newly added variables in the NCD registry, along with age, were identified as significant contributors to the model. ABSTRACT Aim As the aging
