Creating a Masterpiece. The Road to (and Beyond) Woodward and Hoffmann's 1969 Angewandte Chemie Treatise

open access: yesThe Chemical Record, Volume 26, Issue 8, August 2026.
This publication describes how R. B. Woodward and Roald Hoffmann crafted their masterpiece publications. Illustrations include Woodward's first draft of the famous “Violations There are none. Nor can violations be expected of so fundamental a principle of maximum bonding.” Original but discarded text shows the stepwise paths toward the W‐H masterpieces.

An unattended image‐processing pipeline for on‐the‐fly quality assessment and 3D exploration in cryo‐EM

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section D, Volume 82, Issue 8, Page 915-939, August 2026.
We present a fully automated, unattended cryo‐EM pipeline that serves as an on‐the‐fly diagnostic tool, enabling rapid data‐quality assessment and informed decision‐making to maximize data‐collection efficiency.Single‐particle analysis (SPA) by cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) has become a cornerstone of structural biology; yet, the workflow ...

Dynamical simulation of on‐axis transmission Kikuchi and spot diffraction patterns, based on accurate diffraction geometry calibration

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, Volume 303, Issue 2, Page 139-153, August 2026.
Abstract Transmission Kikuchi diffraction in the scanning electron microscope has gained popularity as a materials characterisation technique for its high throughput and nanometre‐level spatial resolution. While conventional diffraction pattern analysis routines focus on Kikuchi bands on the diffraction patterns, the full physical picture of electron ...

A Conic Integer Programming Approach to Constrained Assortment Optimization under the Mixed Multinomial Logit Model

open access: yes, 2017
We consider the constrained assortment optimization problem under the mixed multinomial logit model. Even moderately sized instances of this problem are challenging to solve directly using standard mixed-integer linear optimization formulations. This has motivated recent research exploring customized optimization strategies and approximation techniques.

On the positivity and integrality of coefficients of mirror maps

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 58, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract We present natural conjectural generalisations of the ‘positivity and integrality of mirror maps’ phenomenon, encompassing the mirror maps appearing in the Batyrev–Borisov construction of mirror Calabi–Yau complete intersections in Fano toric varieties as a special case.

Mizohata–Takeuchi inequalities for orthonormal systems

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 114, Issue 2, August 2026.
Abstract We establish some weighted L2$L^2$ inequalities for Fourier extension operators in the setting of orthonormal systems. In the process, we develop a direct approach to such inequalities based on generalized Wigner distributions, complementing the Schatten space approach that is prevalent in the wider context of estimates for such orthonormal ...

On 7‐adic Galois representations for elliptic curves over Q$\mathbb {Q}$

open access: yesProceedings of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 133, Issue 2, August 2026.
Abstract In recent years, significant progress has been made on Mazur's Program B, with many authors beginning a systematic classification of all possible images of p$p$‐adic Galois representations attached to elliptic curves over Q$\mathbb {Q}$. Currently, the classification is only complete for p∈{2,3,13,17}$p \in \lbrace 2,3,13,17\rbrace$.

High‐Order Janus Bound States in the Continuum Assisted by Unidirectional Guided Resonances

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 14, 27 July 2026.
A high‐order Janus bound state in the continuum, featuring a q = −3 vortex in the upward radiation channel and a q = +1 vortex in the downward channel, is realized in truncated‐cone photonic crystal slabs by merging unidirectional guided resonances with a symmetry‐protected BIC, enabling direction‐dependent control of topological light emission ...
