Different definitions of conic sections in hyperbolic geometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In classical Euclidean geometry, there are several equivalent definitions of conic sections. We show that in the hyperbolic plane, the analogues of these same definitions still make sense, but are no longer equivalent, and we discuss the relationships ...

Learning Trajectory for Pre-Service Mathematics Teachers in Geometry through the Context of Bengkulu Conic-Section Batik Patterns

open access: yesInovasi Matematika
The understanding of analytic geometry is often hindered by its abstract presentation and its disconnection from local contexts familiar to students.

Feasibility Study on Evaluation Method for Plateau Surfaces by Conic Curve Fitting Using Information of Conjugate Diameter

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings, 2023
Plateau surfaces have excellent sliding properties because only the high peaks of surface asperity are smoothed. Therefore, they form the sliding surfaces for automobile engines and machine tools, contributing to their high performance and low ...

Vector constants of the motion and orbits in the Coulomb/Kepler problem

open access: yes, 2003
The equation for the conic sections describing the possible orbits in a potential $V \sim r^{-1}$ is obtained by means of a vector constant of the motion differing from the traditional Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector.Comment: 5 pages, no ...

Conic Section Elements Based on the Rational Absolute Nodal Coordinate Formulation

open access: yesMathematics
The construction of rational absolute nodal coordinate formulation (RANCF) elements is usually based on a linear transformation of non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS) geometry.

Convex recovery of a structured signal from independent random linear measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This chapter develops a theoretical analysis of the convex programming method for recovering a structured signal from independent random linear measurements.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Image Analysis based on Radon-type Integral Transforms Over Conic Sections

open access: yesVISIGRAPP, 2018
This paper presents a generalized Radon transform defined on conic sections called Conic Radon Transform (CRT) for image analysis. The proposed CRT extends the classical Radon transform (RT) which integrates a image function $f(x, y)$ over straight lines.

Crafting Conic Sections [PDF]

open access: yesMath Horizons, 2021
Circles, ellipses, parabolas, and hyperbolas are called conic sections because each of these curves arises as the boundary of a slice of a cone. Imagine slicing a solid cone of clay.
