Phenolic profiling of caffeic acid O-methyltransferase-deficient poplar reveals novel benzodioxane oligolignols [PDF]
Caffeic acid O-methyltransferase (COMT) catalyzes preferentially the methylation of 5-hydroxyconiferaldehyde to sinapaldehyde in monolignol biosynthesis. Here, we have compared HPLC profiles of the methanol-soluble phenolics fraction of xylem tissue from

Silencing CHALCONE SYNTHASE in maize impedes the incorporation of tricin into lignin and increases lignin content [PDF]
Lignin is a phenolic heteropolymer that is deposited in secondary-thickened cell walls, where it provides mechanical strength. A recent structural characterization of cell walls from monocot species showed that the flavone tricin is part of the native ...

A New Pyrrolidone Alkaloid and Other Constituents from Rourea oligophlebia Stems
Phytochemical study of Rourea oligophlebia stems led to the isolation of a new 2-pyrrolidone alkaloid (R,S)-N-(5-hydroxyl-pyrrolidin-2-one-1-yl)acetamide (1), together with 14 known compounds including friedelin (2), friedanol (3), taraxerol (4 ...

Mass spectrometry-based fragmentation as an identification tool in lignomics [PDF]
The ensemble of all phenolics for which the biosynthesis is coregulated with lignin biosynthesis, i.e., metabolites from the general phenylpropanoid, monolignol, and (neo)-lignan biosynthetic pathways and their derivatives, as well as the lignin ...

Origins of Noncovalent Interactions in Lignocellulosic Biomass and Potential Implications on Recalcitrance. [PDF]
Quantum mechanical calculations on 189 lignin‐hemicellulose models reveal that noncovalent interactions are modulated by methoxy substitution on lignin and carboxylate groups in monosaccharides. Increased methoxy substitution and carboxylation significantly strengthens their binding.

Coniferyl alcohol reactivity at the air/water interface
In order to investigate the sensitivity of the lignin monomer coupling reactions to the environment physicochemical conditions, coniferyl alcohol (CA) was polymerised at the air/water interface. Characterisation of the interface during the reaction by surface pressure measurement and ellipsometry demonstrates that the reaction occurs near or at the ...
