Cephem Potentiation by Inactivation of Nonessential Genes Involved in Cell Wall Biogenesis of ß-Lactamase-Producing Escherichia coli [PDF]
Reversal of antimicrobial resistance is an appealing and largely unexplored strategy in drug discovery. The objective of this study was to identify potential targets for “helper” drugs reversing cephem resistance in Escherichia coli strains producing β ...

GENETICS OF CHEMICAL INDUCTION OF CONJUGATION IN PARAMECIUM AURELIA [PDF]
ABSTRACT Certain stocks of P. aurelia, syngen 8, could not be induced to conjugate in a solution (KCl + acriflavine + calcium-poor conditions) which was effective in inducing conjugation in other species of Paramecium as well as in other stocks of syngen 8.

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Influence of the absorber dimensions on wavefront shaping based on volumetric optoacoustic feedback [PDF]
The recently demonstrated control over light distribution through turbid media based on real-time three-dimensional optoacoustic feedback has offered promising prospects to interferometrically focus light within scattering objects.

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Artificial Conjugation in Escherichia coli and Transfer of Penicillinase Plasmid
Conjugation is a major mechanism of DNA transfer among bacteria which takes place in both laboratory and natural environment and brings about new characteristics. Extrachromosomal DNA called plasmid are important elements in this exchange.

Cytogerontology since 1881: A reappraisal of August Weismann and a review of modern progress [PDF]
Cytogerontology, the science of cellular ageing, originated in 1881 with the prediction by August Weismann that the somatic cells of higher animals have limited division potential.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
