We present the results of a taxonomic survey of the genus Micrasterias in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador (MRS), Bahia, northeastern Brazil during 2007–2010 and 2014–2015. A total of 275 phytoplanktonic and periphytic samples from 11 municipalities were analyzed.

Inferring phytoplankton community composition with a fatty acid mixing model
The taxon specificity of fatty acid composition in algal classes suggests that fatty acids could be used as chemotaxonomic markers for phytoplankton composition. The applicability of phospholipid‐derived fatty acids as chemotaxonomic markers for phytoplankton composition was evaluated by using a Bayesian fatty acid‐based mixing model.

Desmid algae (Charophyta: Conjugatophyceae) of Ekaterinburg, Middle Urals, Russia
Species composition of desmid algae and their habitat preferences in water bodies of Ekaterinburg city were studied during the 2013–2017. Thirty-seven species and subspecific taxa which belong to 12 genera and 2 families were identified, of which 17 species are new for the eastern macroslope of the Middle Urals.
