A dune pond and the first records of Desmidiaceae (Zygnematophyceae) in Sergipe, Brazil
Desmidiaceae (Zygnematophyceae) is represented in Brazil by 27 genera and about 485 species. Studies which complement taxonomic information and geographic distribution of desmids have advanced in the country; however, six states, including Sergipe, have ...

A single Thaumarchaeon drives nitrification in deep oligotrophic Lake Constance
Summary Ammonia released during organic matter mineralization is converted during nitrification to nitrate. We followed spatiotemporal dynamics of the nitrifying microbial community in deep oligotrophic Lake Constance. Depth‐dependent decrease of total ammonium (0.01–0.84 μM) indicated the hypolimnion as the major place of nitrification with 15N ...

On changes in the nomenclature of some taxa of Zygnemaceae
The names of three species have been changed in the Zygnemaceae family because of their incompatibility with the principles of classification of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature. The names and ranks of 18 taxa were also changed since they

Inferring phytoplankton community composition with a fatty acid mixing model
The taxon specificity of fatty acid composition in algal classes suggests that fatty acids could be used as chemotaxonomic markers for phytoplankton composition. The applicability of phospholipid‐derived fatty acids as chemotaxonomic markers for phytoplankton composition was evaluated by using a Bayesian fatty acid‐based mixing model.
