Immunization of complex networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Complex networks such as the sexual partnership web or the Internet often show a high degree of redundancy and heterogeneity in their connectivity properties. This peculiar connectivity provides an ideal environment for the spreading of infective agents.

Sex Commonalities and Differences in Obesity-Related Alterations in Intrinsic Brain Activity and Connectivity. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
OBJECTIVE:This study aimed to characterize obesity-related sex differences in the intrinsic activity and connectivity of the brain's reward networks. METHODS:Eighty-six women (n = 43) and men (n = 43) completed a 10-minute resting functional magnetic ...

Aerodynamic Uncertainty Quantification for Tiltrotor Aircraft

open access: yesAerospace, 2022
The tiltrotor has unique flight dynamics due to the aerodynamic interference characteristics. Multiple aerodynamics calculation approaches, such as the CFD method, are utilised to characterise this feature.

Comparative measurement of the breakup length of liquid jets in airblast atomisers using optical connectivity, electrical connectivity and shadowgraphy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A comparative examination of the optical connectivity, electrical connectivity and shadowgraphy techniques for the measurement of the break-up length of atomising liquid jets from a co-axial airblast atomiser is presented.

Brain Connectivity and Graph Theory Analysis in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease: The Contribution of Electrophysiological Techniques

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2022
In recent years, applications of the network science to electrophysiological data have increased as electrophysiological techniques are not only relatively low cost, largely available on the territory and non-invasive, but also potential tools for large ...

The Connectivity and the Harary Index of a Graph [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The Harary index of a graph is defined as the sum of reciprocals of distances between all pairs of vertices of the graph. In this paper we provide an upper bound of the Harary index in terms of the vertex or edge connectivity of a graph.

Predictive Probability Density Mapping for Search and Rescue Using an Agent-Based Approach With Sparse Data

open access: yesIEEE Access
Predicting the location where a lost person could be found is crucial for search and rescue operations with limited resources. To improve the precision and efficiency of these predictions, simulated agents can be created to emulate the behavior of the ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Connectivity Properties of Factorization Posets in Generated Groups

open access: yes, 2019
We consider three notions of connectivity and their interactions in partially ordered sets coming from reduced factorizations of an element in a generated group.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
