Using miniaturized laboratory equipment and DNA barcoding to improve conservation genetics training and identify illegally traded species

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract Illegal wildlife trade (IWT) is one of the largest global illegal activities, and it negatively affects biodiversity and sustainable development worldwide. DNA barcoding coupled with high‐throughput sequencing (i.e., metabarcoding) is useful in identifying taxa affected by IWT and has been used routinely for decades.

open access: yesEntomoBrasilis, 2017

Deciphering the complex life cycle and partial migration of an ecological engineer and critical Neotropical fishery species, Prochilodus costatus

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 108, Issue 4, Page 1170-1184, April 2026.
Abstract Understanding complex migration patterns, including drivers of partial migration and habitat use, is challenging but essential for conservation, as it determines a species' adaptative capacity in the face of environmental change and anthropogenic threats.

Avaliação do risco de extinção do gato-do-mato Leopardus geoffroyi (d'Orbigny & Gervais, 1844) no Brasil

open access: yesBiodiversidade Brasileira, 2013

Living Near the Surface: Dive Behavior of Sei Whales (Balaenoptera borealis) in the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean

open access: yesMarine Mammal Science, Volume 42, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding the diving behavior of baleen whales in tropical breeding areas is essential for evaluating both ecological functions and anthropogenic threats. In this study, we combined satellite transmitters and generalized additive mixed models (GAMMs) to investigate the dive behavior of sei whales (Balaenoptera borealis) in Santos Basin (SB)

UNIDADES DE CONSERVAÇÃO DA NATUREZA COMO ESTRATÉGIA DE CONSERVAÇÃO SOCIOAMBIENTAL

open access: yes, 2020

Molecular Responses to Climate Change: How Warming and Acidification Reshape the Proteome and Phosphoproteome of the Endangered Mira Chub

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Global environmental change affects organisms, including their physiology. In freshwater ecosystems, where migration is limited, populations often rely on phenotypic plasticity to respond. While transcriptomics has been widely used to study stress responses at the molecular level, less is known about the proteome, which reflects post ...

Spatial Structure Explains Morphological Variation Better Than Climatic Gradients in the South American Rattlesnake (Crotalus durissus)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
We evaluated whether climatic gradients or spatial structure better explain body size variation in the South American rattlesnake (Crotalus durissus) across its wide geographic range. After explicitly accounting for spatial autocorrelation, climatic variables were not significant predictors of body size in either sex, whereas sex‐specific spatial ...
