Deep Learning-Based Computational Color Constancy With Convoluted Mixture of Deep Experts (CMoDE) Fusion Technique

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
In the human and computer vision, color constancy is the ability to perceive the true color of objects in spite of changing illumination conditions. Color constancy is remarkably benefitting human and computer vision issues such as human tracking, object

A Neural Network Model of 3-D Lightness Perception [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
A neural network model of 3-D lightness perception is presented which builds upon the FACADE Theory Boundary Contour System/Feature Contour System of Grossberg and colleagues.

The role of histone modifications in transcription regulation upon DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review discusses the critical role of histone modifications in regulating gene expression during the DNA damage response (DDR). By modulating chromatin structure and recruiting repair factors, these post‐translational modifications fine‐tune transcriptional programmes to maintain genomic stability.

Causes of Ineradicable Spurious Predictions in Qualitative Simulation

open access: yes, 2011
It was recently proved that a sound and complete qualitative simulator does not exist, that is, as long as the input-output vocabulary of the state-of-the-art QSIM algorithm is used, there will always be input models which cause any simulator with a ...

Transparent layer constancy

open access: yesJournal of Vision, 2012
In transparency perception the visual system assigns transmission-related attributes to transparent layers. Based on a filter model of perceptual transparency we investigate to what extent these attributes remain constant across changes of background and illumination.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Length and orientation constancy learning in 2-dimensions with auditory sensory substitution: The importance of self-initiated movement

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2015
A subset of sensory substitution (SS) devices translate images into sounds in real time using a portable computer, camera, and headphones. Perceptual constancy is the key to understanding both functional and phenomenological aspects of perception with ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Using Eye Tracking to Explore the Guidance and Constancy of Visual Variables in 3D Visualization

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, 2017
An understanding of guidance, which means guiding attention, and constancy, meaning that an area can be perceived for what it is despite environmental changes, of the visual variables related to three-dimensional (3D) symbols is essential to ensure rapid

Strategy-proof Sharing [PDF]

open access: yes
We consider the problem of sharing a divisible good, where agents prefer more to less. First, we prove that a sharing rule satisfies strategy proofness if and only if it has the quasi-constancy property: no one changes her own share by changing her ...
