MODELLING OF STRESS GRADIENT EFFECT ON FATIGUE LIFE USING WEIBULL BASED DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In the present paper, a new approach is developed in order to take into account the stress gradient effect on fatigue life of structural components. The proposed approach is based on the weakest link concept in which the shape coefficient of the Weibull ...

Functional fatigue of shape memory wires under constant-stress and constant-strain loading conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Shape memory alloys (SMAs) are increasingly used for the construction of simple solid-state actuators characterized by outstanding power density. The rational design of these actuators requires reliable data on the fatigue strength of the alloy under ...

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Experimental and numerical research of stress relaxation behavior of magnetorheological elastomer

open access: yesPolymer Testing, 2021
The paper presents experimental research and viscoelastic modeling of stress relaxation response of isotropic magnetorheological elastomer (MRE). The isotropic MRE has been prepared based on silicone matrix filled by magnetically micro-sized carbonyl ...

Effect of heat treatment residual stress on stress behavior of constant stress beam

open access: yesJournal of Computational Design and Engineering, 2017
Abstract Although most casting and heat treatment processes generate significantly high residual stress in the products, this factor is generally not taken into account in the design stage of the product. In this study, experimental study and numerical analysis were conducted on a constant stress beam to examine effects of the residual ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Elastic-plastic behaviour of AISiC metal matrix composite rod under combined tension and torsion loading [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Most machine components and structural members are subjected to complex loading conditions during service. Typical complex loading conditions can be observed in the case of a bolt When a bolt is tightened to bring machine components together, stresses ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Constant and cyclic shear stress regulate collagen fibers self-assembly

open access: yesMedicine in Novel Technology and Devices
Collagen fibers are a key structural component in the plaques of atherosclerosis (AS), playing a vital role in regulating plaque stability. Investigating the factors that affect collagen fiber self-assembly and their mechanisms not only aid in assessing ...

Shear testing on rock tunnel models under constant normal stress conditions

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2022
Large shear deformation problems are frequently encountered in geotechnical engineering. To expose the shear failure mechanism of rock tunnels, compression-shear tests for rock models with circular tunnel were carried out, including single tunnel and ...
