Variational analysis of a frictional contact problem with wear and damage
We study a quasistatic problem describing the contact with friction and wear between a piezoelectric body and a moving foundation. The material is modeled by an electro-viscoelastic constitutive law with long memory and damage.

Fracture toughness of rough and frictional cracks emanating from a re-entrant corner [PDF]
In mixed-mode conditions, the competing contribution of the different stress intensity factors predicts fracture initiation load as well as crack propagation direction.

A Constitutive Friction Law for Sheet-Bulk Metal Forming
Friction has a significant effect on metal forming both in economic and technical terms. This is especially true for sheet-bulk metal forming, which is a combination of bulk metal forming and sheet metal forming.

Dynamic Model of a Conjugate-Surface Flexure Hinge Considering Impacts between Cylinders
A dynamic model of a Conjugate-Surface Flexure Hinge (CSFH) has been proposed as a component for MEMS/NEMS Technology-based devices with lumped compliance.

Rothe method and numerical analysis for history-dependent hemivariational inequalities with applications to contact mechanics [PDF]
In this paper an abstract evolutionary hemivariational inequality with a history-dependent operator is studied. First, a result on its unique solvability and solution regularity is proved by applying the Rothe method.

Constitutive Behavior of Rocks During the Seismic Cycle
Establishing a constitutive law for fault friction is a crucial objective of earthquake science. However, the complex frictional behavior of natural and synthetic gouges in laboratory experiments eludes explanations.

Static and sliding contact of rough surfaces: effect of asperity-scale properties and long-range elastic interactions [PDF]
Friction in static and sliding contact of rough surfaces is important in numerous physical phenomena. We seek to understand macroscopically observed static and sliding contact behavior as the collective response of a large number of microscopic ...
