Continuum Mechanics Modeling of Flexible Spring Joints in Surgical Robots
A new mechanical model of a tendon‐actuated helical extension spring joint in surgical robots is built using Cosserat rod theory. The model can implicitly handle the unknown contacts between adjacent coils and numerically predict spring shapes from straight to significantly bent under actuation forces.

On Cattaneo–Christov heat flux in the flow of variable thermal conductivity Eyring–Powell fluid
Here Cattaneo–Christov heat flux model is employed for heat transfer in the stagnation point flow due to stretching cylinder. This consideration modifies the Fourier’s law of heat conduction through thermal relaxation time.

On a nonlinear elasticity problem with friction and Sobolev spaces with variable exponents
We consider a nonlinear elasticity problem in a bounded domain, its boundary is decomposed in three parts: lower, upper, and lateral. The displacement of the substance, which is the unknown of the problem, is assumed to satisfy the homogeneous Dirichlet ...

A constitutive law for dense granular flows
A continuum description of granular flows would be of considerable help in predicting natural geophysical hazards or in designing industrial processes. However, the constitutive equations for dry granular flows, which govern how the material moves under ...

A multi-level interface model for damaged masonry [PDF]
The aim of the present work is to propose a new micro-mechanical model in the context of the deductive approach used to derive interface models. This model, based on a previous study introduced previously by A. Rekik and F.

Waveguide Photoactuators: Materials, Fabrication, and Applications
Waveguide photoactuators convert guided light into mechanical motion. Their tethered‐flexible design enables minimally invasive surgery and confined‐space robotics. This review aims to guide materials selection, device design, and system integration, accelerating the transition of waveguide photoactuators from laboratory prototypes to versatile ...

The Effect of Grading Index on Two-dimensional Stress and Strain Distribution of FG Rotating Cylinder Resting on a Friction Bed Under Thermomechanical Loading [PDF]
This paper presents two-dimensional stress and strain behavior of a FG rotating cylindrical shell subjected to internal-external pressure, surface shear stresses due to friction, an external torque, and constant temperature field.

Advancing Energy Materials by In Situ Atomic Scale Methods
Progress in in situ atomic scale methods leads to an improved understanding of new and advanced energy materials, where a local understanding of complex, inhomogeneous systems or interfaces down to the atomic scale and quantum level is required. Topics from photovoltaics, dissipation losses, phase transitions, and chemical energy conversion are ...
