Establishment and Characterization of Bovine Trophoblast Stem Cells Growing as Adherent Cells or Vesicles

open access: yesMolecular Reproduction and Development, Volume 92, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT In ungulates, the development of the trophoblast lineage follows a peculiar process, as implantation is preceded by a relatively long period of trophoblast elongation, the molecular control of which is still not well known. Here, we have established novel bovine trophoblast stem cells (b2iTSCs) growing in a completely defined medium containing

miR‐140‐5p Overexpression Contributes to Oxidative Stress and Mitochondrial Dysfunction in Hutchinson‐Gilford Progeria Syndrome Fibroblasts Through NRF2 Pathway

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 12, December 2025.
This study identifies a novel molecular mechanism involving miR‐140‐5p that contributes to the pathogenesis of HGPS. By decreasing NRF2 expression, miR‐140‐5p overexpression results in downregulation of the NRF2/KEAP1/HO‐1 antioxidant pathway in HGPS fibroblasts, leading to increased oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction, two hallmarks of ...

Nuclear destabilisation – a possible genesis of cancer?

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 100, Issue 6, Page 2420-2434, December 2025.
ABSTRACT This review examines the increasingly prominent role of mechanics within cancer formation and progression. The extremely varied and contradictory genetic landscape of cancer is in stark contrast to the seemingly universal mechanical characteristics of cancer cells and their tumour microenvironment, and mechanics may be a principal unifying ...

Overcoming BET‐inhibitor JQ1 resistance in aggressive non‐small cell lung cancer by inducing ferroptosis via inhibition of the BRD2–FTH1 axis

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 292, Issue 23, Page 6345-6364, December 2025.
Recent studies emphasize alternative functions of FTH1 relevant for nuclear processes, such as transcriptional regulation. This study shows a novel FTH1/BRD2 association in non‐small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). This nuclear interaction affects BRD2 protein stability in aggressive NSCLC cells.

A new piece in the repeatome puzzle of Triatominae bugs: The analysis of Triatoma rubrofasciata reveals the role of satellite DNAs in the karyotypic evolution of distinct lineages

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, Volume 34, Issue 6, Page 917-928, December 2025.
Satellite DNAs comprise the major component of the Triatoma rubrofasciata repeatome, highlighting their central role in genome composition and architecture. Satellite DNA families show recent amplification in heterochromatin and older, more divergent satellite DNAs located in euchromatin, indicating distinct evolutionary histories.

Establishment of transgenic Drosophila suzukii lines that express phiC31 integrase and carry the sepia gene as a marker for transformation

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, Volume 34, Issue 6, Page 960-969, December 2025.
Germline transformation of the Drosophila suzukii se1 strain with the wild‐type sepia gene (~1.8 kb) using a piggyBac vector. Most lines show full rescue of sepia mutant eye colour. The lines express phage phiC31 integrase in the germline using a Dsnanos promoter.

DNA methylation contributes to plant acclimation to naturally fluctuating light

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 248, Issue 5, Page 2361-2375, December 2025.
Summary Plants in the natural environment experience continuous dynamic changes in light intensity. Here, we exposed Arabidopsis thaliana plants to naturally fluctuating light (FL) regimes alongside traditional square light (SQ) regimes such as those often found in control environment growth chambers.

New Cytogenetic Data for the Neottieae Tribe (Orchidaceae) in the Mediterranean Region

open access: yesPlants
This work presents a summary of cytogenetic data, including new information, on several species within the tribe Neottieae, with an update of the karyotype for 23 species belonging to the genera Cephalanthera, Limodorum, Epipactis, and Neottia (including
