The X-linked Mecp2 is a known interpreter of epigenetic information and mutated in Rett syndrome, a complex neurological disease. MeCP2 recruits HDAC complexes to chromatin thereby modulating gene expression and, importantly regulates higher order ...

SMC4 Promotes Prostate Cancer Cell Proliferation and Metastasis via the Rheb/mTOR Pathway
Structural maintenance of chromosome protein 4 (SMC4) has been implicated in prostate cancer metastasis. Knockdown of SMC4 in RM1‐LM cells significantly attenuates proliferation, migration, and lung metastasis in vivo. Furthermore, SMC4 interacts with GLUT1 (Slc2a1), thereby enhancing glycolysis, ATP production, and activation of the Rheb/mTOR pathway.

DNA and heterochromatin cycles in male gamete development of Oedogonium
In antheridial nuclei of Oedogonium cardiacum (Hass.) Wittr. during male gamete formation, the DNA presynthetic period is shortened, the synthetic and postsynthetic periods are lengthened (G1 - 15%, S - 58%, G2 - 29%) as compared with those in vegetative

Targeting and regulatory mechanisms in chromosome-wide gene regulation using Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism [PDF]

Cell nucleus elastography with the adjoint-based inverse solver [PDF]
Background and Objectives: The mechanics of the nucleus depends on cellular structures and architecture, and impact a number of diseases. Nuclear mechanics is yet rather complex due to heterogeneous distribution of dense heterochromatin and loose euchromatin domains, giving rise to spatially variable stiffness properties.

Constraints on effective constitutive parameters of certain bianisotropic laminated composite materials [PDF]
When the electrically thin unit cell of a laminated composite material is made of two bianisotropic sheets whose constitutive properties in the thickness direction are decoupled from the constitutive properties in the interfacial planes, the laminated composite material can be homogenized into a material not all of whose constitutive parameters are ...

Compared with those on the pTi surface, macrophages on the TNTs surface present reduced myosin II contractility, which facilitates the nuclear translocation of the UTX. This reduction decreases the enrichment of the repressive H3K27me3 histone modification at the Abca1 gene locus, which promotes the transcription and protein expression of ABCA1 ...

Targets of histone H3 lysine 9 methyltransferases
Histone H3 lysine 9 di- and trimethylation are well-established marks of constitutively silenced heterochromatin domains found at repetitive DNA elements including pericentromeres, telomeres, and transposons. Loss of heterochromatin at these sites causes

Karyotype evolution in progress: A new diploid number in Belostoma candidulum (Heteroptera: Belostomatidae) from Argentina leading to new insights into its ecology and evolution [PDF]
A novel chromosome complement (2n = 14 = 12 + XY/XX; male/female sex chromosomes), male meiosis behaviour, heterochromatin characterization, and frequency and distribution of chiasmata are described for the first time in specimens from a natural ...
