Legal theory in search of social transformation
Inspired by the contributions of Poul Kjaer and Kerry Rittich to this Special Issue, this article extends the reflection on the role and potential of law for social transformation.

Global existence results for some viscoelastic models with an integral constitutive law [PDF]
We provide a proof of global regularity of solutions of some models of viscoelastic flow with an integral constitutive law, in the two spatial dimensions and in a periodic domain.

3D‐Printed Serial Snap‐Through Architectures for Programmable Mechanical Response
A serial snap‐through architecture is realized using compact 3D‐printed von Mises truss units arranged in a staged cascade. Their geometry and boundary conditions program multistage mechanical responses with plateaux and re‐hardening regimes. An inverted‐compliance model predicts these behaviors and enables analytical design of programmable force ...

The impact of EU membership on the UK constitution has been profound. In the Miller (Article 50) case, the Supreme Court described the effect of the European Communities Act 1972 (ECA) – the means by which EU membership was given effect within the UK – as being unprecedented in constitutional terms.

The slip-rate, state-, temperature-, and normal-stress-dependence of fault frictionKey points
The mechanics of slow-slip events and earthquakes is controlled by the constitutive behavior of rocks in active fault zones, which is sensitive to many factors encompassing lithology, temperature, confining and pore-fluid pressure, and slip-rate, among ...

About the Use of Concrete Damage Plasticity for Modeling Masonry Post-Elastic Behavior
Considering the high vulnerability of existing masonry buildings, which often have strategic or cultural value, professionals and specialized engineers are frequently required to model complex historical buildings.

Crucial role of side walls for granular surface flows: consequences for the rheology
In this paper we study the steady uniform flows that develop when granular material is released from a hopper on top of a static pile in a channel. We more specifically focus on the role of side walls by carrying out experiments in setup of different ...

Shear-Mode Viscoelastic Damage Formulation Interface Element [PDF]
In this paper, a viscoelastic-damage cohesive zone model is formulated and discussed. The interface element constitutive law has two elastic and damage regimes. Viscoelastic behaviour has been assumed for the shear stress in the elastic regime.

This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

Transient and Steady‐State Friction in Non‐Isobaric Conditions
The frictional properties of faults control the initiation and propagation of earthquakes and the associated hazards. Although the ambient temperature and instantaneous slip velocity controls on friction in isobaric conditions are increasingly well ...
