Low-field quantum Hall transport in an electron Fabry-Perot interferometer: Determination of constriction filling vs front-gate voltage [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 78, 245322 (2008), 2008
We report systematic quantum Hall transport experiments on Fabry-Perot electron interferometers at ultra-low-temperatures. The GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure devices consist of two constrictions defined by etch trenches in 2D electron layer, enclosing an approximately circular island.

Apical constriction is driven by a pulsatile apical myosin network in delaminating Drosophila neuroblasts

open access: yesDevelopment, 2017
Cell delamination is a conserved morphogenetic process important for the generation of cell diversity and maintenance of tissue homeostasis. Here, we used Drosophila embryonic neuroblasts as a model to study the apical constriction process during cell ...

Addressing persistent challenges in digital image analysis of cancer tissue: resources developed from a hackathon

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Large multidimensional digital images of cancer tissue are becoming prolific, but many challenges exist to automatically extract relevant information from them using computational tools. We describe publicly available resources that have been developed jointly by expert and non‐expert computational biologists working together during a virtual hackathon

Short FtsZ filaments can drive asymmetric cell envelope constriction at the onset of bacterial cytokinesis

open access: yesEMBO Journal, 2017
FtsZ, the bacterial homologue of eukaryotic tubulin, plays a central role in cell division in nearly all bacteria and many archaea. It forms filaments under the cytoplasmic membrane at the division site where, together with other proteins it recruits, it

Adverse prognosis gene expression patterns in metastatic castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We aggregated a cohort of 1012 mCRPC tissue samples from 769 patients and investigated the association of gene expression‐based pathways with clinical outcomes. Loss of AR signaling, high proliferation, and a glycolytic phenotype were independently prognostic for poor outcomes, and an adverse transcriptional feature score incorporating these pathways ...

Cell type specificity of neurovascular coupling in cerebral cortex

open access: yeseLife, 2016
Identification of the cellular players and molecular messengers that communicate neuronal activity to the vasculature driving cerebral hemodynamics is important for (1) the basic understanding of cerebrovascular regulation and (2) interpretation of ...

Motor equivalent strategies in the production of /u/ in perturbed speech [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Several articulatory strategies are available during the production of /u/, all resulting in a similar acoustic output. /u/ has two main constrictions, at the velum and at the lips.

Domain-wall dynamics at micropatterned constrictions in ferromagnetic (Ga,Mn)As epilayers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The influence of sub-µm geometric constrictions on 90° magnetic domain-wall nucleation and propagation in stripes of ferromagnetic (Ga0.95,Mn0.05)As was explored.

Re-examining Archie's law: Conductance description by tortuosity and constriction [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. E 86, 046-314 (2012), 2015
In this article we investigate the electrical conductance of an insulating porous medium (e.g., a sedimentary rock) filled with an electrolyte (e.g., brine), usually described using the Archie cementation exponent. We show how the electrical conductance depends on changes in the drift velocity and the length of the electric field lines, in addition to ...

Uncoupling apical constriction from tissue invagination

open access: yeseLife, 2017
Apical constriction is a widely utilized cell shape change linked to folding, bending and invagination of polarized epithelia. It remains unclear how apical constriction is regulated spatiotemporally during tissue invagination and how this cellular ...
