Improving the quality of various types of recycled aggregates by biodesposition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Demand for construction materials has been rising in recent decades in many countries around the world, placing a heavy burden on the environment in terms of both the natural resources consumed and the enormous flow of waste generated. In order to obtain

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Theoretical model of effective elastic moduli of composites considering the inclusion features

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Quantifying the effect of composition on the two-phase composite’s mechanical properties is crucial for the life prediction and durability design of the whole structure.

Development and mechanical properties of construction materials from lunar simulants [PDF]

open access: yes
The development of construction materials such as concrete from lunar soils without the use of water requires a different methodology than that used for conventional terrestrial concrete. Currently, this research involves two aspects: (1) liquefaction of

Materials and techniques of Art Nouveau architecture in Italy and Portugal: a first insight for an European route to consistent restoration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The results of the investigations on building materials and techniques of Casa Major Pessoa, a typical Art Nouveau construction in Aveiro (Portugal), and two coeval Art Nouveau buildings in Bologna (Italy) are presented as a methodological contribution

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Mesoscopic numerical simulation of the dynamic mechanical behavior of concrete containing tunnel slag aggregates

open access: yesResults in Engineering
The utilization of tunnel slag as concrete aggregate is an effective means of achieving resource recycling. This study employs a mesoscopic numerical simulation method to investigate the dynamic mechanical properties of concrete incorporating tunnel slag

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.
