A Review on Multi-Scale Toughening and Regulating Methods for Modern Concrete: From Toughening Theory to Practical Engineering Application

open access: yesResearch
Concrete is the most widely used and highest-volume basic material in the word today. Enhancing its toughness, including tensile strength and deformation resistance, can boost the structural load-bearing capacity, minimize cracking, and decrease the ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

SOME PECULIAR FEATURES IN SHRINKAGE OF CLAY MASS DURING DRYING PROCESS

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений и энергетических объединенний СНГ: Энергетика, 2005
The paper contains results of correlation and stochastic analysis for regularities in shrinkage of the Lukoml clay and molding mass prepared on its base, and also the Gloukhov and Gloukhovetsky kaolin and their mixtures. It has been revealed that an ...

Improvement in strength calculation for pavement structure of rail station areas

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
The paper discusses the issue of how to increase the durability of road pavements at stations. At the same time, the behavior of asphalt-concrete layers is considered taking into account thermoreological properties and their materials.

Polymer-stabilized copper nanoparticles and their application for catalytic water purification [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
A study was conducted on the synthesis of copper nanoparticles via chemical reduction of copper sulfate with tert-butylamine borane in aqueous solutions using various polymer stabilizers: polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and Pluronics (F-68, F-127). In situ UV–

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Real-time Spatial Detection and Tracking of Resources in a Construction Environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Construction accidents with heavy equipment and bad decision making can be based on poor knowledge of the site environment and in both cases may lead to work interruptions and costly delays.
