The closure and partial separation of a metallic contact

Journal of the Institution of Electrical Engineers - Part I: General, 1945
The problems associated with contacts between nominally clean metallic surfaces approaching and separating normally (as distinct from continuously sliding) may be divided into two groups according to whether the path between the surfaces is metallic or gaseous. The paper is concerned with the first of these groups.

Contact charge accumulation and separation discharge

Journal of Electrostatics, 2009
The cumulative triboelectrification of solids by repeated contact and separation is not completely understood. For nominally identical contact, the transferred charge often requires multiple cycles to saturate, and in some cases does not saturate at all.

Contacting and Separation Equipment - the Electrical Alternative

1992
ABSTRACT Present understanding of the way in which electric fields can be used to improve equipment performance is based upon a few fundamental observations. Thus, drops forming in an electric field are subject to additional forces that can result in drop rupture or the formation of smaller than usual drops.
