Photonic Engineering Enables All‐Passive Upconversion Imaging with Low‐Intensity Near‐Infrared Light

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A passive upconversion imaging system enables the observation of scenes illuminated by low‐intensity incoherent near‐infrared light from 750 to 930 nm, by converting it into the visible without the use of external power. The upconverter is enabled by triplet–triplet annihilation in a bulk heterojunction, with absorption enhanced by plasmonic resonators

The Realization of Multidirectional, Free‐Standing 3D Plasmonic Nanostructures via 3D Nanoprinting: A Case Study of Fractal Antennas

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Free‐standing plasmonic gold‐based fractal antennas are fabricated by 3D nanoprinting, employing focused electron beam induced deposition and an optimized purification method to remove carbon while conserving structural fidelity. Simulation and experiment show broadband plasmonic activity, including customizable polarizability, thereby paving the way ...

Ion and Solvent Dynamics in Charged 2D Clay Nanoslits with Unprecedented Ångström‐Precise Slit Height Control

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The slit height of fluorohectorite 2D‐nanochannels is tuned with Å‐precision (2.4–250 Å). Slit‐height‐dependent ion and water mobilities are quantified by applying EIS, PFG‐NMR, and SFG‐NMR with MD simulations guiding interpretation. Diffuse properties are investigated with CP‐AFM, MD, and PB.

Contact angle measurement and contact angle interpretation

Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, 1999
Recent progress in the correlation of contact angles with solid surface tensions are summarized. The measurements of meaningful contact angles in terms of surface energetics are also discussed. It is shown that the controversy with respect to measurement and interpretation of contact angles are due to the fact that some (or all) of the assumptions made

Contact Angle Measurements

2017
Contact angle has been an important parameter to determine the wetting ability of the polymer membrane surface. Contact angle has gained interest in surface science in regards to its fundamental aspects and application point of view. This chapter will give an insight into fundamentals of contact angle including the theoretical backgrounds, brief ...

Thermodynamically consistent phase-field modelling of contact angle hysteresis

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2020
In the phase-field description of moving contact line problems, the two-phase system can be described by free energies, and the constitutive relations can be derived based on the assumption of energy dissipation.

Dynamic contact angles and contact angle hysteresis

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1977
Abstract Contact angles have been measured as a function of the three-phase-boundary velocity. Large velocity effects observed with other techniques were not seen using the plate method. It is possible to relate the dependence of contact angles on velocity to surface heterogeneity.

Hydrophilicity and Water Contact Angle on Methylammonium Lead Iodide

Advanced Materials Interfaces, 2018
Surface properties are often assessed with measurements of the contact angle of a water drop. The process is however flawed for the very important class of hybrid perovskite materials, extensively employed in solar cells and optoelectronics research ...
