Intermittent contact resonance atomic force microscopy

Nanotechnology, 2014
The intermittent contact resonance atomic force microscopy (ICR-AFM) mode proposed here is a new frequency modulation technique performed in scanning force controlled AFM modes like force volume or peak force tapping. It consists of tracking the change in the resonance frequency of an eigenmode of a driven AFM cantilever during scanning as the AFM ...

Motion recognition from contact force measurement

2013 35th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2013
Optical motion capture systems, which are used in broad fields of research, are costly; they need large installation space and calibrations. We find difficulty in applying it in typical homes and care centers. Therefore we propose to use low cost contact force measurement systems to develop rehabilitation and healthcare monitoring tools.

Contact and Fluid Forces

2011
In the previous chapter, we looked in some detail at gravity, which is a force that acts at a distance. Except for gravity, however, most of the forces that we encounter in our daily lives arise from direct contact with other objects, either solids or fluids.

LIFTING FORCES ASSOCIATED WITH CONTACT LENSES

Optometry and Vision Science, 1972
ABSTRACTA mathematical model, predicting the lifting forces required to dislodge an “on K” (or near “on K”) fitted contact lens from the corneal surface, was tested in the laboratory. While the greatest force increases occurred with the addition of an initial 0.2 mm aperture.

Contact force identification using the subharmonic resonance of a contact-mode atomic force microscopy

Nanotechnology, 2005
We propose a step-by-step experimental procedure for characterization of the nonlinear contact stiffness on surfaces using contact-mode atomic force microscopy. Our approach directly estimates the first-, second-, and third-order coefficients of the contact stiffness.

Contact Force Models for Multibody Dynamics

2016
In this book, several compliant contact force models are analyzed within the context of multibody dynamics, in which the main issues associated with the fundamental contact mechanics are also revisited. In particular, various contact force models from linear to nonlinear, purely elastic to dissipative contact force models are presented and their ...

Contact Force during Active Roughness Perception

2012
In active touch, tactile perception is bidirectionally related to the exploratory movements. This means that exploration influences perception, but also perception influences exploration. We can optimize or change the exploratory movements according to the perception and/or the task, consciously or unconsciously.

Contact Force and Friction

2013
This chapter introduces contact forces and pressures and its modelling; consequent to this is friction as occurs within the structure and between the constituent components. Various friction or more correctly energy dissipative mechanisms are identified and are grouped into two categories; those that arise because of relative motion between components ...

Other Contact Force Models

2015
Implementation of the contact force models described in the previous chapter into particle system simulation codes involve complex algorithms and require load reversal points to be stored in memory. Consequently, many researchers elect to use simpler contact force models in order to reduce computer time requirements.
