Thermal Contact Conductance at Low Contact Pressures [PDF]
New correlations are presented for the truncated Gaussian (TG) thermal contact conductance model during first loading. The TG model is also incorporated into existing models for the hysteresis effect of thermal contact conductance and for the plastic contact pressure.

Finite element analysis of tibio‐femoral contact mechanics of a customised knee spacer
With one‐third of patients having osteoarthritis predominantly in one compartment of the knee, unicompartmental knee spacers have been introduced as a less invasive alternative to total knee replacement.

Evaluation of pressure-stiffness coupling in brush seals [PDF]
Brush seals are comprised of fine diameter fibers densely packed between retaining and backing plates. To achieve seal compliance bristles are arranged to contact rotor with some lay angle.

Propagation of surface initiated rolling contact fatigue cracks in bearing Steel [PDF]
Surface initiated rolling contact fatigue, leading to a surface failure known as pitting, is a life limiting failure mode in many modern machine elements, particularly rolling element bearings.

A comparison of slip, disjoining pressure, and interface formation models for contact line motion through asymptotic analysis of thin two-dimensional droplet spreading [PDF]
The motion of a contact line is examined, and comparisons drawn, for a variety of models proposed in the literature. Pressure and stress behaviours at the contact line are examined in the prototype system of quasistatic spreading of a thin two ...

Solutions to Lame problems for combined transversally-isotropic spheres with a general center [PDF]
The paper deals with obtaining an exact analytical solution of the Lamé problem on the equilibrium state of a combined body consisting of two tightly fitted transversely isotropic spheres with a common center.

Characterisation of contact pressure distribution in bolted joints [PDF]
The quantification of contact area and pressure distribution in a bolted joint is essential information, as it determines the integrity of the coupling. Current bolted joint design standards are based on analytical solutions of the pressure distribution,

Experimental characterization of wheel-rail contact patch evolution [PDF]
The contact area and pressure distribution in a wheel/rail contact is essential information required in any fatigue or wear calculations to determine design life, re-grinding, and maintenance schedules. As wheel or rail wear or surface damage takes place

Fretting wear of the stay cable is an important factor affecting the service life of the cable. To accurately calculate the extent of fretting wear, it is necessary to calculate the internal contact pressure in the cable. Although there are many theories
