Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

A method for static and dynamic load analysis of standard and modified spur gears [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
The mesh stiffness and dynamic load characteristics for several cases of the Normal Contract Ratio and High Contact ratio gearing. The considered contact ratios were grouped in the general range of 1.7,2.0, and 2.3.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Elastic properties of isotropic discrete systems with skew contact normals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The macroscopic elastic properties of discrete assemblies are fundamental characteristics of such systems. The contribution uses homogenization procedure based on equivalence of virtual work between the isotropic elastic continuum and the discrete system

A Precision Measurement of Electroweak Parameters in Neutrino-Nucleon Scattering [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The CCFR collaboration reports a precise measurement of electroweak parameters derived from the ratio of neutral-current to charged-current cross-sections in neutrino-nucleon scattering at the Fermilab Tevatron.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Effect of contact angle and helix angle on slide-roll ratio under the uniform motion state of BSM

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
To study the effect of contact and helix angles on slide-roll ratio at the ball contact point under the uniform motion state of ball screw mechanism (BSM), a slide- roll ratio model was derived in the literature [9] were used in this paper.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
