Contact metallization on strained-Si

Solid-State Electronics, 2004
Abstract Metal–semiconductor interfaces play a crucial role in electronic and optoelectronic devices. Strained-Si heterostructure devices are expected to play an important role due to its compatibility with Si processing technology. The interfacial reactions and chemical phase formation between nickel and ultrahigh vacuum chemical vapor deposited ...

Strain fields at contacts between small particles

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2003
Stress fields between interacting small particles ( approximately 100 nm) have been investigated by transmission electron microscopy. The background for these TEM observations is discussed in terms of adhesion stress fields (due to surface forces), the action of an applied point force, possibly magnetic, and dislocations or misfit strains due to an ...

Adherence of Two Strains of Staphylococcus epidermidis to Contact Lenses

Cornea, 2002
To compare the adherence of biofilm-producer and nonbiofilm-producer Staphylococcus epidermidis in vitro to different soft contact lenses (CLs) to study its possible contribution to the pathogenesis of keratitis.Strains of S. epidermidis slime-positive ATCC 35984 (biofilm-producer) and slime-negative ATCC 12228 (nonbiofilm-producer) were used with ...

Predictive contact allergenicity influence of the animal strain used

Toxicology, 1984
In order to determine the validity of reported alleged differences in the susceptibility of various strains of guinea pigs to the sensitizing action of known allergens, three unrelated strains of guinea pigs, namely Pirbright White, Hartley and Himalayan spotted strain, were selected.

Strain typing and contact tracing—A clinician's viewpoint

Tuberculosis, 2007
Active case-finding is an important element in the control of tuberculosis. Household members of patients with tuberculosis are investigated on the grounds that an index case with pulmonary tuberculosis may have passed on the disease. If the index has any other form of tuberculosis, such as mediastinal lymph node involvement, pleural effusion or ...

Study of the relationship between the strain and strain rate for viscoelastic contact interface in robotic grasping

2010 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2010
In this paper, a nonlinear latency model is presented to describe the relationship between the strain and strain rate of the temporal responses in robotic grasping that involves viscoelastic contact interface. The results from experiments and simulation are presented, and are found to match well with each other.

Contact stress and strain of cylinders in skewing

Russian Engineering Research, 2011
Cylinder contact on skewing is considered by means of the model of an elastic base. Analytical formulas are derived for the contact strain, the maximum contact stress, the maximum halfwidth of the contact area, and its length.

Strain measurement by contact methods and extensometry

1995
Modern demands for strain measurement vary enormously in range, test environment, test material and testing regime. From plastics at room temperature to ceramics at 1500 °C, materials are pulled, compressed, twisted and fatigued while the strain response is simultaneously recorded.

Development of a strain sensor for rolling contact loads

2011 16th International Solid-State Sensors, Actuators and Microsystems Conference, 2011
Development of a strain sensor for rolling contact loads. - A strain sensor for high spatial resolution and low response time for rolling contact loads was developed and applied to an axial cylindrical roller bearing. The sensor consists of 100 nm thick titanium and is embedded in an aluminum oxide layer of 500 nm thickness that acts as a wear ...
