Evaluation of Heavy Metals Pollution in Lakes Subsoil and Surface Soils in Urmia Eastern Region Using Pollution Indicators

open access: yesعلوم آب و خاک, 2020
Soil pollution by heavy metals is a serious environmental problem that threatens the human health. The present study was carried out to investigate and detect the contamination of heavy metals of arsenic, copper, lead, zinc and iron due to human and ...

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Environmental Investigation and Spatial Distribution of Heavy Metals in the Street Dust of Ahvaz City

open access: yesعلوم آب و خاک, 2020
Dusts contain heavy metals such as Pb, Zn, Cu, Cr, Cd and As that can threat human's health and environment. Therefore, the spatial distribution of heavy metals concentration and soil pollution monitoring and environmental quality protection seem to be ...

Inhibition factor of ammonification in stored urine with fecal contamination

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2008
Inhibition factors of urea hydrolysis caused by fecal contamination as source of urease were investigated. The urea hydrolysis was described by initial ammonification rate (IAR). Three factors for the inhibition (pH, free ammonia nitrogen (FAN) and salinity) were investigated in this study. It was found that the optimum pH value for the urea hydrolysis

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Hydrostatic pressure activates HIF‐1α via β‐catenin to promote stemness in breast cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
To mimic the elevated intestinal fluid pressure in breast cancers, we loaded human breast cancer cells (MCF‐7, MDA‐MB‐453, and BT‐474) to 50 mmHg hydrostatic pressure. Hydrostatic pressure exposure upregulated HIF‐1α and induced stemness in MCF‐7 and BT‐474 cells.

Bisphenol-a contamination and risk factors

open access: yes, 2020
Bisfenol-A dünyada kullanım hacmi en yüksek kimyasallardan birisidir. Endokrin sistemini bozabilen insan sağlığına çeşitli zararlar verdiği yapılan çalışmalarla gösterilen Bisfenol-A maddesine maalesef çok fazla maruziyet söz konusudur. Bisfenol-A'nın dünyadaki yıllık üretimi ortalama 1.7 milyar kg civarındadır Almanya, Hollanda, Japonya ve ...

Fukushima Contaminated Water Risk Factor: Global Implications

open access: yesEnvironmental Science & Technology
The discharge of Fukushima radioactively contaminated water into the Pacific Ocean started in August 2023, posing comprehensive threats to marine ecosystems and human health globally. This study introduces the Fukushima Contaminated Water Risk Factor (FCWRF), which integrates three components─radionuclide diffusion, bioaccumulation, and global seafood ...
