Surface Properties of Organic Kerogen in Continental and Marine Shale

Langmuir, 2018
The adhesion energy of kerogen in continental and marine shale was innovatively discovered using the colloid probe technique with atomic-force microscopy (AFM). AFM results indicated that the adhesion force of kerogen was higher than the inorganic material in both the continental and marine shale samples.

Characterization of Continental Shale Gas with Integrated Geoscience-Engineering Approach [PDF]

open access: possibleInternational Petroleum Technology Conference, 2019
Abstract Marine shale gas plays have been well developed worldwide; however, continental shale plays have been untapped until recently. Globally, there are no or few successes for continental shale gas development, although marine shale gas has been commercially exploited worldwide for decades.

A new method for continental shale oil enrichment evaluation

Interpretation, 2017
We have evaluated continental shale oil enrichment via experiments. Rock pyrolysis, nuclear magnetic resonance, and pulse permeability tests were conducted to establish the pore saturation index (PSI), which comprehensively evaluates the enrichment of shale oil features using the characteristics of self-generation and self-preservation, the parameters

Nanoscale mechanical property of marine and continental organic kerogen in shale

Chinese Chemical Letters, 2020
Abstract Kerogen is known as an important organic part for absorbing and forming shale gas whose absorption function, especially mechanical and tribological properties, has not been fully revealed. Here, we use Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis to reveal the chemical structure of kerogen.

New method for prediction of shale gas content in continental shale formation using well logs

Applied Geophysics, 2016
Shale needs to contain a sufficient amount of gas to make it viable for exploitation. The continental heterogeneous shale formation in the Yan-chang (YC) area is investigated by firstly measuring the shale gas content in a laboratory and then investigating use of a theoretical prediction model.
