Gravitational dynamics in s+1+1 dimensions II. Hamiltonian theory

open access: yes, 2007
We develop a Hamiltonian formalism of brane-world gravity, which singles out two preferred, mutually orthogonal directions. One is a unit twist-free field of spatial vectors with integral lines intersecting perpendicularly the brane.

A natural boundary for the dynamical zeta function for commuting group automorphisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
. For an action α of Z d by homeomorphisms of a compact metric space, D. Lind introduced a dynamical zeta function and conjectured that this function has a natural boundary when d 2.

A Bibliometric Analysis of Publications in Uremic Toxins From 1991 to 2024

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Uremic toxins are a growing area of research in nephrology, with significant implications in the progression and treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the management of end‐stage kidney disease (ESKD). This bibliometric analysis aims to evaluate the global research trends, key contributors, and the impact of publications in ...

AUGlasses: Continuous Action Unit based Facial Reconstruction with Low-power IMUs on Smart Glasses

open access: yesCoRR
Recent advancements in augmented reality (AR) have enabled the use of various sensors on smart glasses for applications like facial reconstruction, which is vital to improve AR experiences for virtual social activities. However, the size and power constraints of smart glasses demand a miniature and low-power sensing solution.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Non-cardiogenic pleural effusion after amlodipine intoxication and hyperinsulinemic therapy

open access: yesMedicine Science, 2016
We report a patient with amlodipine intoxication who presented to hospital 30 hours after suicidal intake of the drug. Admitted to the intensive care unit, the patient had profound hypotension and need for fluid replacement and infusion of dopamine and ...

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.
