Coupled Dynamics Between Networks and Fields in Physical Space: A Theoretical Perspective

open access: yesAnnalen der Physik, Volume 538, Issue 9, September 2026.
Networks embedded in physical space often communicate through dynamical fields that both mediate and respond to collective behavior. A unified theoretical perspective is presented for these network‐field systems, linking established mathematical frameworks and revealing how feedback between discrete interactions and continuous spatial processes can ...

Optimizing Regional Flood Frequency Analysis for Floodplain Mapping and Risk Reduction

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 9, September 2026.
The estimation of flood hazards in river basins under monsoon conditions and data‐scarce situations is a challenging task due to the scarcity of the streamflow measurements and the high variability of the distribution of the rainfall. This paper provides a detailed framework for flood modeling and inundation mapping for a specific sub‐catchment of the ...

Mathematical Modeling of Pulse‐Seeded Metapopulation Dynamics for Andes Hantavirus Border Dispersal

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 9, September 2026.
A pulse‐seeded metapopulation SEIR model for Andes hantavirus maritime dispersal shows that heterogeneous quarantine compliance determines secondary outbreak risk. The weakest‐compliance country governs global containment, while uniform compliance above ∼65%$$ \sim 65\% $$ reduces the global reproduction number below unity.
