Effect of friction time on mechanical and metallurgical properties of continuous drive friction welded Ti6Al4V/SUS321 joints

Materials & Design (1980-2015), 2014
Abstract Dissimilar joint of Ti6Al4V titanium alloy and SUS321 stainless steel was fabricated by continuous drive friction welding. The effect of friction time on the mechanical properties was evaluated by hardness measurement and tensile test, while the interfacial microstructure and fracture morphologies were analyzed by scanning electron ...

Heat Transfer in Continuous-Drive Friction Welding of Different Diameters

Numerical Heat Transfer, Part A: Applications, 2005
ABSTRACT Heat transfer in friction welding of similar and dissimilar cylindrical rods with different diameters is considered in the present study. The governing equations are solved numerically using an explicit finite-difference technique to determine the temperature field for various values of geometric and thermal parameters.

Continuous Drive Friction Welding Studies on AISI 304 Austenitic Stainless Steel Welds

Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2004
Abstract An attempt has been made to study the friction welding characteristics of an austenitic stainless steel AISI 304 employing a continuous drive friction welding machine. The central region in some of the welds exhibited abnormal grain growth. Optimization studies revealed that the optimum parameters depend on the property of interest. In general,

A New Friction Law for the Modelling of Continuous Drive Friction Welding: Applications to 1045 Steel Welds

Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 1999
ABSTRACT This paper presents the results of a combined experimental and numerical study of continuous drive friction welding of 1045 steel. A new friction law is proposed for the estimation of the apparent coefficient of friction during direct to 3.36 m.s-1.

Continuous drive friction welding studies on AISI 430 ferritic stainless steel

Science and Technology of Welding and Joining, 2003
AbstractAn attempt has been made to study the continuous drive friction welding characteristics of AISI 430 ferritic stainless steel. All the welds exhibited fine equiaxed ferritic grains. Parameters that result in marginally coarse grain size in the bond zone led to low hardness and high toughness.

Microstructure and tensile strength of aluminum/stainless steel joint welded by inertia friction and continuous drive friction

Welding in the World, 2020
Microstructure and mechanical properties of 6061-T6 aluminum alloy/304 stainless steel (Al/steel) joints welded by inertia friction (IFW) and continuous drive friction (CDFW) were studied comparatively. Morphology, microstructure, interfacial composition, and mechanical properties of Al/steel joints were investigated.

THERMO-MECHANICAL AND MICROSTRUCTURAL INVESTIGATIONS OF AA 6061/GNPS WELDED JOINTS DEVELOPED BY CONTINUOUS DRIVE FRICTION WELDING

2022
The paper provides a novel technique for merging graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) within aluminium matrix (AA 6061) by continuous drive friction welding (CDFW). The welding processes were done at 1400 rpm and 2000 rpm rotational speeds with two different frictional loads 2000 N and 2500 N for 5 sec and 7 sec welding times. The welded joints were subjected

Assessment of microstructure and tensile behavior of continuous drive friction welded titanium tubes

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2017
Abstract Friction welding process has been applied to join Grade 2 titanium alloy tubes of outer diameter 60 mm and wall thickness 3.9 mm. In this research work, five different friction times (24, 28, 32, 36 and 40 s) were used to evaluate the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and microstructure of welded tubes.

Parameter design and analysis in continuous drive friction welding of Al6061/SiCp composites

Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2015
Continuous drive friction welding (FW) had found profound industrial applications as an economical solid state joining process. The welding parameters such as frictional pressure, upset pressure, burn off length and rotational speed were found to influence the quality of joints.

Size Effects in Continuous Drive Friction Welded Spray‐Compacted Hypereutectic Al–Si Alloys

Advanced Engineering Materials, 2017
Spray‐compacted hypereutectic Al–Si alloy is one of the most important lightweight materials for casting components in electric vehicles. Size effects in such alloys jointed by continuous drive friction welding have been investigated by connecting the interfacial microstructure with the joint strength.
