Investigation of Continuous and Intermittent Heating on Far-Infrared Assisted Freeze-Drying

Transactions of the ASABE, 2009
Freeze-drying of sweet potato was studied using continuous and intermittent far-infrared (FIR) assisted heating in this study. Intermittency levels of a = 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1 were applied with a cycle time of 30 min, and it was found that the optimum intermittency level was a = 0.5.

Continuous measurement of drying rate of crystalline and amorphous systems during freeze‐drying using an in situ microbalance technique

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2001
The use of a novel microbalance (Christ) technique to monitor continuously the weight loss of a vial standing on a shelf of a freeze-dryer has been investigated. The drying rates of the following aqueous solutions were measured during the primary drying phase of a complete freeze-drying cycle: sucrose (75 mg/mL, 2.5-mL fill volume), sucrose and ...

On the Role of Aging, Washing, and Drying in the Synthesis of Polycrystalline Zinc Oxide by Precipitation: Combining Fast Continuous Mixing, Spray Drying and Freeze Drying to Unravel the Solid-State Transformations of the Precipitate

Catalysis Letters, 2008
The continuous precipitation of zinc carbonates using aqueous solutions of zinc nitrate and sodium carbonate was quenched within a few seconds by combining a micromixer with a bench-top spray dryer. In this way, it was possible to monitor the slow phase transformation of the initially formed sodium zinc carbonate into zinc hydroxy carbonate during ...

The impact of the stopper position and geometry on the freeze-drying cycle of pharmaceutical products

Drying Technology
Glass vials with silicone stoppers are commonly used for pharmaceutical freeze-drying. Vials are partially stoppered before lyophilization to prevent contamination but introduce resistance to vapor flow through a small aperture.
