Continuous Positive Airway Pressure
Archives of Surgery, 1981To the Editor .–With regard to the article by Venus et al on continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) (Archives1980;115:824-828), I and my colleagues recently published the results of a study that compared the respiratory and cardiovascular effects of CPAP, T-piece breathing, and extubation.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure
AJN, American Journal of Nursing, 1976A low dead space, low resistance, non-rebreathing valve is described. When used with a constant pressure source it enables the expired gases of patients being managed on CPAP to be collected for physiological analysis. It also functions as a collect valve during normal spontaneous respiration and during IPPV.

Assessment of resistance of nasal continuous positive airway pressure interfaces
Archives of Disease in Childhood: Fetal and Neonatal Edition, 2018Objective To compare the resistance of interfaces used for the delivery of nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in neonates, as measured by the generated system pressure at fixed gas flows, in an in vitro setting. Design Gas flows of 6, 8 and

Continuous Positive Airways Pressure
Physiotherapy, 1992Summary This paper reviews the scientific evidence to support the use of continuous positive airways pressure (CPAP) in respiratory care. The current role of the physiotherapeutic use of CPAP on an intermittent basis (periodic continuous positive airways pressure or PCPAP) is also considered. It is necessary for therapists working in respiratory care

Outpatient initiation of long‐term continuous positive airway pressure in children
Pediatric Pulmonology, 2018Current guidelines recommend initiating continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in children during an overnight in‐hospital titration study. Due to a shortage of hospital beds and economic constraints, we started a program for outpatient initiation of

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure
1991Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) ventilation means spontaneous breathing with positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP). In this mode, ventilation depends upon the patient, while the machine serves only to maintain an airway pressure which is constantly higher than atmospheric pressure, and to control oxygen concentration, temperature, and ...

Continuous positive airway pressure: new generations
Clinics in Chest Medicine, 2003Automatic positive airway pressure devices are the most technologically advanced positive airway pressure devices available for use in OSA. Although heterogeneous, they have in common the ability to detect and respond to changes in upper airway resistance.

Predicting Effective Continuous Positive Airway Pressure
Chest, 2000The purpose of this study was to compare the pressure required to abolish apneas as predicted from a previously derived algorithm (Ppred) with the true effective pressure (Peff) determined during a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) titration study.Sleep clinic of a university hospital. We prospectively studied 329 patients with sleep apnea ...
