Models of Continuum with Microcrack Distribution
Mathematics and Mechanics of Solids, 2000The present work compares the micromechanical approach and the continuum approach for modeling microcracked continuum. The first approach considers a distribution of microscopic cells including contacting lips (discontinuity of matter), and the second approach considers a distribution of singularity in a continuum (discontinuity of fields).

The notion of a deformable continuous medium comes to mind when we observe the kind of solid deformations shown in Figs. 1 and 2, during cold or hot forming processes, or again the flow of a liquid, or the expansion and compression of a gas. From this kind of experience, the observer extracts the idea that certain problems can be treated on a ...

Clustering in a Continuum Percolation Model
Advances in Applied Probability, 1997We study properties of the clusters of a system of fully penetrable balls, a model formed by centering equal-sized balls on the points of a Poisson process. We develop a formal expression for the density of connected clusters of k balls (called k -mers)

The CINN algorithm presents a simplified view of network dynamics. Figure 4.1 illustrates this viewpoint. The figure shows the position of input vectors and neurons in the LTM space. The ith neuron is represented by a point in the LTM space whose position is determined by the neuron’s LTM state vector, z;.

Continuum model for the growth of interfaces
Physical Review E, 1996A continuum model is presented for studying various growth processes. One of the model equations is used to define a growing interface with an arbitrary topology and captures the intrinsic dynamics of the aggregate with surface diffusion incorporated in a natural manner.

Continuum Modeling in the Physical Sciences
2007Mathematical modeling—the ability to apply mathematical concepts and techniques to real-life systems—has expanded considerably over the last decades, making it impossible to cover all of its aspects in one course or textbook. Continuum Modeling in the Physical Sciences provides an extensive exposition of the general principles and methods of this ...

A Continuum of Paired Comparisons Models
Biometrika, 1990SUMMARY An approach to building models for paired comparisons experiments based on com- parisons of gamma random variables is considered. The probability that one object is preferred to a second object is taken to be the probability that one gamma random variable with shape parameter r is less than a second independent gamma random variable with the ...
