Integration of contours: new insights

Trends in Cognitive Sciences, 1999
Psychophysical, neurophysiological and anatomical research of the last few years has converged on a new explanation of how the components of a contour become integrated. Borrowing from the Gestalt rules of good continuation, this research suggests that components of a curved contour become integrated when the alignment follows specific rules.

Contour integration: an integral evaluated

In this paper a simple integral is considered which does not appear in standard lists of integrals. A substitution is given which allows the integral to be evaluated. It is then shown how the integral may be formally evaluated by appealing to complex variable theory.

Integration of regions and contours for object recognition

We present an integrated approach combining region and contour-based techniques to enhance both segmentation and recognition processes. This cue integration operates on the level of contour-based groups and complete regions, which are matched to reflect a common cause in the image (and thus in the scene).

Evaluation of Real Integrals by Contour Integration I

We begin this lecture with two examples where we need to use appropriate contours to evaluate certain proper and improper real integrals. We shall also prove Jordan’s Lemma, which plays a fundamental role in the computation of integrals involving rational functions multiplied by trigonometric functions.
