Clearer Contours

2020
This chapter focuses on free indirect speech in nineteenth-century novels, where providing varied forms of access to characters (their speech, their motivations, their minds more generally) is an overriding concern in employing free indirect speech. Against the background of a broadly constructional model of present-day free indirect speech, nineteenth-

Contours and contrast

2008
Contrast in photographic and computer-generated imagery communicates colour and lightness differences that would be perceived when viewing the represented scene. Due to depiction constraints, the amount of displayable contrast is limited, reducing the image's ability to accurately represent the scene.

The contour spectrum

ACM SIGGRAPH 97 Visual Proceedings: The art and interdisciplinary programs of SIGGRAPH '97 on - SIGGRAPH '97, 1997
We introduce the contour spectrllm, a user interface component that improves qualitative user interaction and provides real-time exad quantification in the visualization of isoconlours. The contour spectrum is a signature consisting of a variety of scalar data and conlour attributes, computed over the range of scalar values wE!R.

Contour and Contrast

Scientific American, 1972
"WHEN a dog bites a man, that is not news . . . But if a man bites a dog, that is news," so wrote John B. Bogart, City Editor of The Sun in New York many years ago. The relation between contour and contrast is similar. It is not news, but old and common knowledge that it is the contrast, or difference, in the brightness or color of two adjacent areas ...

Contour Photography

British Journal of Orthodontics, 1976
A method of producing three dimensional photographic records of the human face is described. The equipment utilizes components which can be easily obtained. It is based on telecentric photography in which projected grid lines are made parallel and divergence errors eliminated from the recording camera.

A Response: My Contour, Their Contour

Journal of Music Theory, 1987
Although the subject of contour has been relatively neglected by theorists, two systematic articles with differing terminology and somewhat differing underlying concepts have appeared in this journal during the past year and a half.' For readers who wish to grapple with the applicability of the concepts to both analysis and composition, it seems ...

A contour detection method: Initialization and contour model

Pattern Recognition Letters, 1999
Summary: A new contour detection method based on the snake model is developed and reported. The proposed method consists of two steps. The first step is to locate the initial snake contour and a novel initialization algorithm has been developed. In the second step, an improved snake algorithm is developed to locate the final contour(s).

Body Contouring

Southern Medical Journal, 1980
The prospect of surgical body contouring is a rather recent innovation for the surgeon. For underdeveloped or atrophic breasts, augmentation mammaplasty is reasonably successful. For ptosis and/or hypertrophy of the breast, reduction and elevation on the chest wall by making the breasts more conical and more projecting is a common procedure for the ...

Intracranial contour extraction with active contour models

Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, 1997
AbstractA novel image processing scheme for extracting the intracranial contours in axial magnetic resonance data sets is proposed. The scheme incorporates the method of active contour models, a recently introduced paradigm for contour extraction. Its performance is nearly ideal for T2‐weighted images.
