EFFECTS OF REHABILITATION TREATMENT AND CHARACTERISTICS OF ELBOW CONTRACTURE AFTER SUPRACONDYLAR FRACTURES IN CHILDHOOD

open access: yesExercise and Quality of Life, 2010
Supracondylar fractures of humerus are the most frequent arm fractures in childhood. Complications of these fractures most often take the form of elbow contractures.

Analysis of Treacher Collins syndrome 4‐associated mutations in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Fission yeast models carrying Treacher Collins syndrome type 4‐associated mutations reveal that impaired processivity of RNA polymerase I leads to defective rRNA transcription. This study highlights the essential role of a conserved arginine residue in Pol I elongation and provides mechanistic insight into the pathogenesis of ribosomopathies.

Rehabilitation of a Patient with Knee Arthrofibrosis after Tibial Spine Fracture: a Case Report in Paediatrics [PDF]

open access: yesВестник восстановительной медицины
INTRODUCTION. Tibial spine fracture (TSF) is a rare injury, the incidence is higher among children. The common complication of treatment is arthrofibrosis. Early rehabilitation is important for its prevention. Guidelines haven’t been worked out.

Alcohol‐induced altered glycans in human tracheal epithelial cells promote bacterial adhesion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Alcohol induces altered glycans to promote bacteria adhesion. Heavy alcohol drinking is known to increase the risk of bacterial pneumonia. However, the link between alcohol levels and risk of infection remains underexplored. Recently, we found that alcohol induced α2‐6sialo mucin O‐glycans in human tracheobronchial epithelial cells, which mediated the ...

Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

Effects of Physical Therapy in the Treatment of the Posttraumatic Elbow Contractures in the Children

open access: yesBiomolecules & Biomedicine, 2007
Pediatric post-traumatic elbow contracture can occur as result of the various injuries of area of the elbow joint. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of the physical therapy and rehabilitation on the range of the motion of the elbow ...

Interleukin‐6 as a Key Biomarker in Facioscapulohumeral Dystrophy: Evidence From Longitudinal Analyses

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy type 1 (FSHD1) is a progressive neuromuscular disorder with no approved treatments. Identifying reliable biomarkers is critical to monitor disease severity, activity, and progression. Interleukin‐6 (IL‐6) has been proposed as a candidate biomarker, but longitudinal validation is limited ...

Proctolin and an Endogenous Proctolin-Like Peptide Enhance the Contractility of the Limulus Heart [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
Synthetic proctolin increases the force but not the rate of heart contractions of Limulus in a time- and dose-dependent manner. The threshold of this effect is 3 × 10−10M and the ED50 is approximately 10−8M. At concentrations up to 10−7 M, proctolin has

SNUPN‐Related Muscular Dystrophy: Novel Phenotypic, Pathological and Functional Protein Insights

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective SNUPN‐related muscular dystrophy or LGMDR29 is a new entity that covers from a congenital or childhood onset pure muscular dystrophy to more complex phenotypes combining neurodevelopmental features, cataracts, or spinocerebellar ataxia. So far, 12 different variants have been described.

Molecular genetic analysis for malignant hyperthermia : a thesis presented to Massey University in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Biochemistry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a rare pharmacogenetic disorder in humans caused by inhalational general anaesthetics and depolarising muscle relaxants. An MH reaction shows abnormal calcium homeostasis in skeletal muscle leading to a hypermetabolic state
