Premedication Before Contrast-Enhanced Computed Tomography Scans: A Systematic Review

open access: yesScripta Score Scientific Medical Journal
Background: The use of iodinated contrast media (ICM) in Computed tomography (CT) scan improves visualization but carries a risk of hypersensitivity and other adverse reactions.

The Added Value of (18) F-FDG Positron Emission Tomography/ Computed Tomography Compared to Contrast Enhanced Computed Tomography in the Detection and Assessment of Peritoneal Deposits of Colorectal Origin. [PDF]

open access: yesAin Shams Medical Journal
Background: The challenge of diagnosing peritoneal carcinomatosis from colorectal cancer is notable in oncological imaging. This retrospective study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of contrast-enhanced Multi-Detector Computed Tomography (MDCT) versus ...

Diagnostic accuracy of multidetector-row computed tomography for common bile duct calculi: Is it necessary to add non-contrast-enhanced images to contrast-enhanced images?

open access: yes, 2007
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of 16-slice multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT) for the detection of common bile duct (CBD) stones and to compare the diagnostic values between contrast-enhanced axial with multiplanar reformation ...

Extracellular matrix remodeling and immune reprogramming drive residual tumor progression of liver cancer after incomplete microwave ablation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Incomplete microwave ablation (iMWA) of liver cancer triggers a biphasic progression in residual tumors. At Day 3, the microenvironment is characterized by acute inflammatory responses and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. By Day 14, a profound shift occurs toward oncogenic signal transduction and immunosuppression, marked by macrophage ...

The presence of iodinated contrast agents amplifies DNA radiation damage in computed tomography

open access: yes, 2011
The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of iodinated contrast agents on the formation of DNA double-strand breaks in vitro in lymphocytes and to verify these results in patients undergoing diagnostic computed tomography examinations ...

Mutant p53R273H disrupts PDPK1 homodimerization and contributes to PDPK1 activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
How mutant p53R273H drives AKT signaling is unclear. We show that p53R273H, but not wild‐type, directly binds PDPK1 via a mutation‐dependent conformational change. This interaction disrupts inhibitory PDPK1 homodimerization and enhances AKT phosphorylation.

An unexpected complication: Air embolism during contrast-enhanced computed tomography

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports
Air embolism is often an iatrogenic complication that may occur in venous or arterial circulation depending on the port of entry. We present a case of a 40-year-old female who had a venous air embolism in the pulmonary artery as a consequence of the ...

Attitudes of cancer patients toward ctDNA‐based liquid biopsy for follow‐up

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This mixed‐methods study explored cancer patients' experiences, knowledge, and preferences regarding ctDNA‐based liquid biopsy for follow‐up. Awareness of ctDNA was low and recall of previous liquid biopsy was imperfect, yet acceptance was high.
